Longitudinal Data Systems for Education
Each state in the US is challenged to ensure the highest-quality education for students. But few states can evaluate the effectiveness of their education systems longitudinally or historically to make data-driven decisions that improve student outcomes. That’s why they are using federal grants and other funds to develop state-specific longitudinal data systems (LDS), which unify student data from preschool through graduate school and entry into the work force. However, many state LDS initiatives are at risk of failing due to technical challenges, data integration complexities, and common missteps during development of large-scale enterprise data warehouses.
