“I wasn’t sure what to expect for my first internship – but I was able to dive in, welcomed as a valuable team member, and trusted with great responsibility. It was rewarding to be part of the team that recruits the next wave of STEM-focused talent because I knew I was meeting innovators who would develop cutting-edge solutions to help our customers tackle tough problems.”

"As a part of the Cloud Operations team in R&D working with Amazon Web Services, I was able to use skills I’d learned in class and take those skills to the next level through my work. With an amazing manager and team, I was able to learn more about Amazon Web Services and strengthen my programming skills. The best feeling was that throughout the program, I knew I was working on a project that actually impacted and helped SAS."

“My internship not only gave me the opportunity to learn new skills and think creatively on my assigned projects, but it also allowed me learn about different career paths at SAS. My experience also showed me the importance of company culture, and helped me understand what a healthy work-life balance looks like. The best part about my internship was surrounding myself with people who love the work they do.”

You're In

May and June

SAS has summer internships at our Cary headquarters, with two midmonth start dates. Internships last 10 to 12 weeks.

Let's get down to the details

I've applied. How will I get updates?
Once you apply, we will provide regular status updates to all applicants on a rolling basis. However, we receive thousands of applicants annually, so we appreciate your patience. At the close of our recruitment season (end of the spring semester), we’ll give you a final status update.

I've been offered an interview. What happens next?
Congrats! We’re excited to meet with you. During the selection and interview process, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the team you may work on.

Can I apply for more than one internship?
Based on your prior experiences and interests, your resume will be shared with hiring managers across SAS. This will then determine who you interview with during the selection process. You can apply multiple times, but that does not increase your chances for an interview.

Is housing available if I'm not local to Cary?
Housing is available and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Are internships available only during the summer?
In addition to summer opportunities, we also offer year-round internships for those who can work at our Cary office an average of 15 hours per week.

Intern Expo showcases talent

After working hard all summer our interns participate in our annual Intern Expo. SAS leadership attends the event to show their support of the program. Interns network with other fellow interns and teams across SAS. And they get valuable feedback about how their projects are making an impact.

PhD Fellowships

Our Advanced Analytics team has opportunities for doctoral candidates. Learn and collaborate with an experienced R&D staff. Research focus areas are in data mining, machine learning, forecasting, operations research and statistics – giving you the opportunity to explore software development as a career choice.

Diversity Internship Program

Our R3 diversity program is designed to provide valuable work experience to students who are traditionally underrepresented in the STEM-related tech fields. The goal of R3 is to “recognize, recruit and retain” these talented professionals who infuse diverse ideas into our culture.

Veteran Internships

The Veteran Employment, Training and Support (VETS) internship program provides valuable work experience to students who are transitioning from the military into a civilian workforce and want to work in the tech field. Veterans will have an opportunity to work in a corporate environment, learn about technology career opportunities, receive mentorship and make meaningful contributions to SAS.
