Advanced analytics vs. query and reporting: Knowing which to use when

Dan Vesset, Vice President of Business Analytics for IDC, has spent several years researching how companies use analytics and frequently fields questions on topics like how organizations use advanced analytics to add value to their business decision-making processes and what percentage are moving away from query and reporting into more advanced analytics. IDC’s recent report, Worldwide Business Intelligence Tools: 2010 Vendor Shares Report, notes that interest in both query and reporting and advanced analytics bounced back in 2010.

Vesset addresses the report’s conclusions and provides some advice on how to decide what business processes need advanced analytics, how to find the right resources to engage in advanced analytics and how to use unstructured data to gain a competitive edge in this
video interview.
