The collaborative effort allows users to use data mining and data integration solutions in a grid-enabled environment. SAS® software programs run seamlessly on multiple Sun Solaris servers, improving both productivity and performance. By coordinating efforts, the two companies ensure hassle-free implementation of a seamless software and hardware solution for customers.
"The Sun Fire X4500 unit is an ideal platform for optimal SAS data storage in that it provides parallel access to multiple drivers while giving SAS’ product the ability to control drive utilization," said Joseph Costanzo, CTO at Zencos Consulting LLC. "We achieved excellent performance and read times in the range of 1GB per second, proving to us that the Sun X4500 is well-suited for SAS software based on cost, control and performance. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results and what it means for our clients."
The integrated software/hardware system is robust with enhanced security, predictive self-healing and a service management framework. The combination of SAS’ software offerings, Sun’s x64 servers and the AMD processors delivers the performance, features and value customers need to successfully achieve a complete intelligence solution that spans the enterprise across all levels and provides the information needed at each level quickly and accurately.
The SAS and Sun Solaris partnership meets the growing demand for high-quality software programs combined with advanced operating systems. With SAS business intelligence software running on the Solaris 10 OS, customers now have access to the most popular features that are unique to the Sun Solaris operating system, such as Dynamic Tracing (DTrace), Predictive Self-Healing and Solaris Containers. These sophisticated features provide customers with increased network security, enhanced system observability and less overall server downtime.
"SAS and Sun are furthering their technology vision to develop and deliver the most complete, integrated, end-to-end business intelligence solutions available," said Keith Collins, Chief Technology Officer at SAS. "The Solaris 10 and x64 combination is ideal for supporting the power and breadth of the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform. We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with Sun in driving the value of data integration, BI and analytics throughout the enterprise."
