SAS accelerates reporting for automotive manufacturer

EGR's rapid growth and diversification into new markets identified a need for a dynamic reporting solution for the world leading thermoforming manufacturer.

Exporting automotive accessories, point-of-purchase displays and rigid plastic sheeting to more than 40 countries around the world from its six Brisbane factories, EGR needed a solution that could generate and deliver instant, easy to read reports for a variety of areas such as sales, production and inventory.

"Our ERP system, MFG-Pro, could produce reports, however we were restricted. We didn't have the ability to drill-down into detail, which is necessary to highlight areas which need improvements," said EGR's Information Technology Manager, Steve Dobe.

Requiring a reporting solution which could read, analyse and present the data contained in MFG-Pro, EGR explored several products on the market before choosing SAS. "While there were some things that the other tools could do better, we found that SAS could do everything," Mr Dobe said.

Six months after adopting the reporting solution, EGR has totally embraced SAS according to Mr Dobe.

"Ever since staff started to see what was achievable, the demand has been overwhelming, especially at management level. We've found the solution is very usable and the information is readily available."

"From a production point of view, SAS has helped streamline the manufacturing processes and improve production output," Mr Dobe said.

With SAS now firmly embedded in EGR, Mr Dobe has future plans for solutions based on SAS. "One area we want to focus on is supplier relationship management," he said.

"We also plan to couple the advantages of SAS with bar code technology to provide more real-time statistics and improve our inventory control."
