Historie

Navnet SAS var opprinnelig et akronym for ”statistical analysis system”, og ble startet ved North Carolina State University som et prosjekt for å analysere landbruksdata. Da etterspørselen etter denne typen programvare økte, ble SAS Institute grunnlagt i 1976 for å hjelpe alle typer kunder – fra farmasøytiske selskaper og banker til akademia og statlige etater.

SAS Institute – både programvaren og selskapet – blomstret de neste tiårene. Utviklingen av programvaren nådde nye høyder da den ble tilpasset et standard brukergrensesnitt på tvers av plattformer, fra stormaskiner til pc-plattformen. Selv om SAS nå har vokst til å bli et verdensomspennende selskap, har den positive og innovative bedriftskulturen forblitt den samme.
