VIEW QUESTIONS
Why should I learn SAS?
Learning SAS can help you advance in your current position – or take your career in an entirely new direction. You’ll gain one of the top skills that employers are looking for and increase your marketability in the tech industry. Earning SAS credentials means you’ll likely have plenty of jobs to choose from; consider that Justtechjobs.com recently listed 7,000 SAS jobs – and Indeed.com listed 15,000.
How do I get started learning SAS?
We recommend you start with SAS Programming 1: Essentials or Statistics 1, depending on your path; they’re main entry points and often prerequisites to other SAS courses. If you use R, go with SAS Programming for R Users; the e-learning versions are free. You can find more resources with the SAS Starter Kit, where you’ll find everything you need to know – from creating a profile to finding free resources – to become a SAS user.
How long does it take to learn SAS?
You might be surprised by how quickly you can learn SAS. The entry-level SAS Programming 1: Essentials course is only two days long, while the Statistics 1 course is three days long (both are available as free e-learning courses). You’ll need to factor in some practice time, and you may want to supplement your learning with free video tutorials or books for novice users – but overall it’s a fairly quick process.
How do I get access to software to help me learn SAS?
We provide free learning software to the academic community so students, educators, researchers and independent learners can access SAS.

Do I need to bring my own device or computer to class?
Computers are provided in SAS training facilities.
Will printed course notes be provided?
Course materials are delivered electronically. We encourage you to print a copy before class or bring a digital file with you on your device. You’ll receive an email with download instructions before class begins.
Can I earn continuing education credits (CEUs) for SAS courses?
When you successfully complete SAS instructor-based training courses, you earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The CEU, a nationally recognized unit of measurement for continuing education courses, is defined as "10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction".
SAS awards 0.6 CEU units for each full day of classroom or Live Web training or 0.3 CEU units for each half-day Live Web session; therefore, for a training class running three full days or a Live Web course running 6 half-day sessions, you earn 1.8 CEUs.To receive a transcript report of the SAS classes you have taken, please contact trainingbooksupport@sas.com..
Prices & Discounts
Find details on discounts, group savings and more with this complete list of answers to your pricing questions.
VIEW QUESTIONS
Where can I find details on discounts and offers?
SAS offers training discounts for individuals, groups, SAS partners, students and more.
Is there a difference in cost between in-classroom training and e-learning?
Yes, typically e-learning is cheaper because it doesn’t require a live instructor to travel to a training center. Classroom and live web courses provide an instructor to guide your learning and answer questions in a focused period of time. E-learning is often nearly half the price, but doesn’t provide a live instructor.
Even though Stat 1 and Programming 1 are supposed to be free e-learning courses, I see a price when I add them to the cart.
Check your cart to see which course you’ve added. There is a cost for classroom or live web offerings of those courses, but the e-learning version is free. Read the Statistics 1 and Programming 1 outlines for details.

What is a live web connected class?
In a typical live web class, all the students and instructors are remote. In a connected live web class, remote students are connected to a live class at a SAS training center. The instructor interacts with all the students for a seamless experience.
What is the SAS Virtual Lab?
The SAS Virtual Lab allows you to access the software used in class through your web browser. It provides a nonproduction environment for practice and completion of demonstrations and exercises included in the course. Certain live web and e-learning courses include free access to the virtual lab or have access available for purchase. Refer to the Virtual Lab connection test for additional technical details.
What are the system requirements for a live web or e-learning course?
View the live web system requirements and e-learning system requirements for details.
How do I contact live web technical support?
You can email trainingtechsupport@sas.com.
Do you offer any free e-learning courses?
Yes, we offer several free e-learning courses. Check out our Free Training page.
If I take an e-learning course, will I have opportunities to ask questions of an instructor directly?
An e-learning course enables you to learn at your own pace with the benefit of eliminating travel costs and time away from the office. It does not include the opportunity to ask questions or interact with a live instructor, although you can submit questions via a help option in the course or contact us and someone will get back with you.
How do I activate and access the e-Learning in my subscription?
Read the SAS e-learning activation instructions for details. If you need to troubleshoot an issue, start by reading the general e-learning system requirements. If you do not see the information you need, please email elearn@sas.com.
Can I book a private or on-site course for my group?
Yes, you can schedule a private team training session at your location, ours, or via private live web. The course content can be customized, and you can also add a day or two of individual mentoring to ensure your team is good to go. Once I've purchased training points, how and when can I begin scheduling classes?
When your order is processed, you’ll receive an email with your SAS Training Points account code. You can use that code to begin scheduling classes immediately.

For private training or private live web courses, contact your Education Account Representative.
What is a SAS Training Points administrator, and what are the job responsibilities?
You must designate a representative (SAS Training Points admin) to serve as your main contact for registering employees for training using SAS Training Points. Admins should monitor points usage and communicate SAS Training offerings to the SAS users in their organizations. Admins can also help register their SAS users for public courses and coordinate on-site, private courses.
The admin will also receive periodic communication from SAS, including:
- Monthly account status report of SAS Training Points usage.
- Student registration confirmation e-mails (if requested).
- Quarterly SAS Training News e-mails.
- Access to online account reports.
We encourage SAS Training Points admins to bookmark and visit the Group Training Administrator page and subscribe to the SAS Learning Report – a free, monthly e-newsletter – to stay up-to-date on SAS Training offerings.
If someone new is replacing your current SAS Training Points admin or you want to add a second person to this role, contact your education account representative to update our records.
Whereas one point typically equals one dollar, are there any exceptions?
Yes, there are a few exceptions. They include on-site Business Knowledge Series courses, Certification Bundles, instructor travel expenses, Premium Learning Subscriptions, and third-party training center rental fees. On-site or Private Team Training and related charges for academic customers are another exception. Please contact your education account representative for questions regarding specific pricing on these items.
When do my SAS Training Points expire, and can I extend the expiration date?
SAS Training Points expire in 12 months. Please check with your education account representative if you are unsure of your account's expiration date.
Expiration dates cannot be extended; however, there are several ways to ensure you do not lose your points:
- Contact your education account representative to develop a training plan to allocate all remaining points before expiration.
- Transfer your points to another department or organization that can use them before expiration.
How do I create a plan before beginning?
Your education account representative can work with you to assess your needs and create a training plan. Your rep will:
- Perform a comprehensive training assessment and determine your goals.
- Identify user roles, experience levels and recommended courses.
- Determine the best training delivery methods (public, private training, e-learning, live web or private live web).
- Discuss timelines and logistics.
- Complete a comprehensive training plan for the allocation of your SAS Training Points to ensure you'll use them before they expire, and to help you complete your training goals.
How do I know how many points I have left?
Each month you will receive an email containing your SAS Training Points usage and account balance. If you need to know in the interim, please contact your Education Account Representative or access your reports online. (Please note that the reports are only available for administrators who have opted in to receive the monthly e-mail reports. Digital Badging
One of the benefits of earning a SAS certification is showing off your accomplishments. Find answers to your digital badging questions.
VIEW QUESTIONS
What is a digital badge?
Digital badges are web-enabled versions of your earned SAS credentials that you can post online to various social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. This digital image will contain verified metadata that describes your qualifications and the process required to earn them.
What are the benefits of a digital badge?
Representing your credential as a badge gives you the ability to share online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time by colleagues and/or employers. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of the skills needed to earn your credential.
How does my credential get displayed as a badge?
We have partnered with Credly, a badging platform backed by Pearson, to translate the credential you have earned into a digital badge. The technology Credly uses is based on open badge standards defined by Mozilla and enables you to manage, share and verify your credential digitally.
What is Credly? Is there a fee for using it?
Credly is an enterprise-class Open Badge platform that works with credible organizations to provide digital credentials to individuals. Using Credly to manage, share and verify your credentials is free to badge-earners.
Are digital badges included with SAS e-Learning?
SAS Learn badges are provided upon the completion of most e-Learning courses. However, digital badges are not offered with self-study e-Learning products (PDF + virtual lab hours).
How will I know if I have earned a badge?
You will receive an email notification from admin@credly.com with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account. You will then be able to manage, share and verify your certification.
How will I know if I have earned a badge?
Digital badges are awarded to students attending instructor-led courses with start dates after March 1, 2018. Global e-learning students will also receive badges for courses purchased after March 1st. After completing your course, you will receive an email notification from no-reply@youracclaim.com with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account for managing, sharing and verifying your badge. If you are taking an e-learning course, you will receive a prompt in your learning environment before receiving the email.
How can I keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?
While badges are digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on the Credly platform. The link to verified data makes the badge more reliable and secure than a traditional paper-based credential. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and associated identity.
What if I don't want my credential to be public?
All information regarding you and your credentials can be easily configured in your Credly account. You are in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.
Will I still have access to my existing certification logos?
Yes. SAS Global Certification still provides logos for all existing certifications through the SAS Certification Manager.
What are labor market insights, and how can I access them through Credly to find jobs relevant to my skill set?
Labor market insights contain information pulled from active requisitions across the US and are for informational purposes only. Based on your skills, you can learn which employers are hiring, what job titles you might be qualified for, salary ranges for those jobs and more. To access this information, click on any of the skill tags of badges you've earned. Credly is working to provide more information globally in the future.
Can my Credly profile include badges that have been issued to me from other platforms/companies? Can I export badges issued from Credly to other badge-storing platforms/companies?
Credly does not support uploading of badges issued by other platforms/companies, and it is not possible to export badges at this time. The current open badge infrastructure standards do not allow for real-time verification of our badges outside of the Credly platform, which is a main priority for ensuring verification. Credly is working with the open badge community for future solutions.
Will retired credentials have a badge associated with them?
No, only current credentials will have a badge.
Why does my badge only say "SAS Certified" and not show my credential earned?
With current naming conventions for SAS Global Certification credentials, there is not enough space to provide full names on the badges. Once you publish a badge, it will link to the appropriate credential you have earned.
Where and how can I share my credential through Credly?
Every credential and profile in Credly has a unique URL that can be shared from the platform to LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter – via email, embedded in a website or on a résumé. You can also add your badge to an email signature.
Whom should I contact if I have questions, or if there are issues with my badge?
If you have issues with your SAS digital badges, contact elearn@sas.com. For questions navigating the Credly platform, visit support.credly.com.
What is the SAS® certification and skills directory?
This is a certification and skills directory made possible through our partner Credly. The directory gives you the opportunity to display your badge and broadcast your accomplishments to employers who could be a perfect match for you. The directory can be searched by skill, badge, earner or location.
Can employers who see the directory contact me about opportunities?
In order for employers to contact you directly about opportunities they may have, you must opt in to be contacted. Here’s an easy three step process to do that:
- Navigate to your Credly profile
- Click ‘Privacy + Security’
- Toggle 'Allow users to contact me using my public profile’ to the ‘on’ position.
How can I opt in to the directory?
When you create your own Credly account, you are automatically opted in to the certification and skills directory. If you wish to be hidden from the directory, you can change the permissions in your Credly profile.
