SAS to Support Development of Local Data Analytics Talent in Singapore

Students to receive subsidised access to software, training, and certification through SAS Software Certified Young Professionals Programme

SAS, a leader in analytics, has launched its SAS Software Certified Young Professionals (SCYP) programme for students in Singapore for the first time.

The SAS SCYP programme aims to equip students with in-demand analytics knowledge and expertise in a Covid-19 impacted employment market, while helping to meet the growing demand for data science and analytics professionals across industries in the region.

Digital adoption in Singapore has accelerated tremendously over the past several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the government is recognising technology as the key enabler to respond to the new normal and to address the economic situation.

“SAS has had a strong connection with academia for many years.  By empowering students with SAS analytics knowledge and expertise, this programme will work towards addressing the growing need for technology professionals in Southeast Asia,” said Remco den Heijer, Vice President ASEAN, SAS. “Businesses need qualified people who can understand and analyse data, use it to build models and establish the information that delivers the best value. Organisations will be eager to recruit students who possess such analytical skills,” he added.

The SAS SCYP programme will enable students to work towards SAS certification in programming, machine learning and visual analytics through e-learning courses, at their own pace. The collaborative and engaging programme facilitates learning by having students join SAS Communities and register for live online SAS webinars, led by SAS experts, where they can ask questions and be engaged.

Once students have completed the e-learning courses and attended the associated webinars, they will be able to take the certification exam, with guidance from SAS experts on how to prepare, and use available practice exams to bolster the learning experience and exam-readiness.

Upon graduation from the SCYP programme, SAS students, who are fresh professionals, can also choose to join the SAS Business Intelligence Analytics (BIA) Programme supported under Infocomm Media Development Authority’s Tech Skills Accelerator Company-led Training Programme. The SAS BIA Programme provides further in-depth analytics training and job placement opportunities to fully prepare students for a career in the analytics workforce, helping them jumpstart their career.

In Singapore, the set of subsidised online courses are available to undergraduate students and graduates within two years of their graduation date at varying subsidy levels.

Courses available are as follows:

  • SAS Certified Associate: Programming Fundamentals – Getting Started with SAS
  • SAS Certified Specialist: Machine Learning Using SAS Viya – Machine Learning with SAS
  • SAS Certified Specialist: Visual Business Analytics – Visualisation with SAS

The SCYP programme builds on a history of support for analytics education in the region. Find out more about the SAS Software Certified Young Professionals Programme.
