Students have several options for getting access to SAS:
SAS University Edition
The new SAS University Edition is free use of SAS foundational technologies, ideal for data and statistical analysis in teaching, research and self-paced learning. Available via quick download from the web, SAS University Edition will be offered worldwide for use on PCs or Macs. This version of SAS will include the following SAS modules for download:
SAS/ACCESS interface PC Files
SAS Studio (formerly known as Web Editor)
SAS OnDemand for Academics
SAS OnDemand for Academics provides a no-cost online delivery model to professors for teaching and students for learning data management and analytics. By connecting to a SAS server in the cloud, users access the analytical power of SAS software through a user-friendly, point-and-click interface.
SAS from your University
Your University may have an agreement with SAS to distribute SAS directly to you. A quick way to find if your University does is to go to your student home page and locate the SEARCH area. Type in "SAS" or "SAS Software" to see what is returned. You may also find out by contacting your ITS department. If neither of these provide an answer, email SAS for assistance in finding out if your University participates. SAS also offers students and employees the opportunity to obtain SAS for their home PCs and laptops for academic purposes. Home use is provided at no additional charge and the process is managed by the University often through the ITS department. Find out from your University if home use with the home user agreement is in place.
Using SAS for your academic research
SAS offers many opportunities for students to be rewarded for using SAS successfully in their research:
This competitive program rewards the top student users of SAS in student research and will pay their travel expenses and registration fees to present at SAS Global Forum. Find out more about last year's winners (PDF).
Present at a SAS User Group conference
Great opportunities to network and exchange knowledge are yours when you present at or attend a SAS user group conference. Papers should spotlight how SAS is used, a tip/trick to use SAS, and can be for any level of SAS user.

JMP and SAS. The best of both.
For students who know their field of study and need to explore or visualise data, JMP is an excellent companion to SAS. A SAS toolbar in JMP provides seamless SAS access. With JMP, students can browse data from a local SAS connection, read and write SAS datasets, remotely submit code to SAS and see the results displayed as JMP interactive graphics.
For single users looking for a perpetual license to access JMP, an option is to purchase a copy of JMP® Software Version 11 for Academics. Please complete this form and either email or fax directly to (02) 9428 4759.

Transforming our customers' world by partnering with students to develop their STEM Talents
SAS has a long history of supporting Academia and of helping our customers meet their needs for talented people across Australia and New Zealand. One key way in which we do this is through the SAS Work Placement Program, a part of SAS’ Academic Outreach Initiative. The SAS Work Placement Program helps match STEM university students with SAS skills to SAS customers during university summer break. It allows organisations the chance to offer students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills using SAS solutions and allows students to put their theoretical study into practice, giving them real world experience in a corporate environment, across a range of industries.
