Cleveland Clinic is a renowned global health care provider that operates in the US, Canada, England, and United Arab Emirates. During the coronavirus pandemic, they were on frontlines with a focus on optimizing hospital preparedness before, during, and after regional peaks.

Cleveland Clinic partnered with SAS to create innovative analytical models, which helped forecast patient volume, bed capacity, medical equipment availability, and more. One unique aspect of these models was that they did not forecast a projection based on a single set of assumptions. Instead, they created worst-case, best-case, and most-likely scenarios. This multi-scenario analysis informed resource planners to adequately prepare for what was next.

To help other hospitals and medical providers navigate the pandemic, Cleveland Clinic made these models publicly available. Hospitals around the world were able to access analytical modeling to help them prepare for a variety of scenarios.

Post-pandemic, these models are still a valuable tool for medical institutions. While the coronavirus crisis has largely subsided, frontline professionals face crisis regularly.
