Trust in AI
Understand more about our compliance with the recent regulations and how SAS is committed to responsible, trustworthy AI while providing innovative capabilities for our customers.
SAS’ Commitment to Responsible Use of Generative AI
Generative artificial intelligence is transforming industries with its ability to create content, automate tasks, and accelerate innovation. At SAS, we recognize both the promise and the risks of this powerful technology. Decisions about using this technology should be deliberative, thoughtful, and include perspectives from the highest levels of an organization. With that mindset, and with input from SAS Legal, SAS’ Artificial Intelligence Oversight Committee and SAS’ Executive Leadership Team, SAS has established a formal and comprehensive generative AI policy to govern employees’ use of generative AI for business purposes.
What Customers Can Expect from SAS
As detailed in our generative AI policy, SAS applies the following principles to every use of generative AI in our business operations and product development:
Protection of Intellectual Property and Confidential Information
SAS safeguards its own intellectual property as well as that of customers, partners, vendors or other business partners.
Respect for Privacy
We ensure that all generative AI use respects the rights of individuals, including customers, employees and partners.
Human Oversight and Quality Control
We ensure meaningful human review and involvement for any process involving generative AI.
Transparency and Disclosure
SAS discloses the use of generative AI when appropriate – especially when it helps avoid confusion or ensures compliance with legal or ethical standards.
Compliance and Accountability
We use generative AI tools in accordance with their terms of service and applicable laws. SAS prohibits any use of generative AI that could be misleading, harmful or unlawful.
Rigorous Review
SAS has robust procedures for reviewing generative AI capabilities before onboarding them to ensure alignment with our policies and obligations to customers.
Why This Matters to You
As a SAS customer, you can trust that our use of generative AI is thoughtful, deliberate and aligned with your expectations for data protection, transparency and ethical technology. Our policy helps SAS employees across the company understand the concerns customers may raise when evaluating technology for adoption, which will lead to better products that our customers want to use and stronger customer relationships based on mutual trust.
Being ethical by design and building trustworthiness into our platform enables our customers to build compliant, responsible AI with SAS." Reggie Townsend Vice President of the Data Ethics Practice, SAS
