Zap to correct performance degradation problem on zSeries machines

SAS and IBM have jointly investigated a reported problem with SAS software running slower than expected on the new zSeries of machines.

This investigation revealed a problem attributed to the separation of the instruction and data cache into separate caches on the zSeries machine. The previous 9672 architecture used a single cache for both data and instruction. At issue is the fact that storing data near the instructions being executed can cause performance degradation.

Apply the zap referenced by Z609G952 to correct this problem. The zap is valid for all TSLEVELs of Release 6.09E of the SAS System and may be applied prior to moving to new zSeries machines.

Refer to SAS Note SN-004291 for a description of this problem and associated fix information for Version 8 of the SAS System.
