Participants

  • Maximum of 40 projects
  • Teams must be made up of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people

  • Native Portuguese or Spanish, OR, their projects must have been applied/executed in the Iberian Territory

Others

  • The intellectual property of the projects and proposals made and presented under the Iberian Award will belong to the participants
  • SAS and the Event Organizers may publish the images of the participants who have been designated as winners on their website and on social media
  • The award is personal and non-transferable

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETITION


1. SUBJECT

Hereby disclosed are the Terms and Conditions of the SAS DATA SCIENCE IBERIAN AWARD, for the development and presentation of projects in the field of Data Science aimed at both Professional Data Scientists (active workers or members of a team in a temporary project with a real impact or young professionals or experienced experts) as well as academics students in the field of Data Science, hereinafter referred to as the “Iberian Award”.

The Iberian Award is organized by SAS Institute S.A.U. (“SAS”) and has the participation of SPAIN AI and Data Science Portuguese Association DSPA (hereinafter, “the collaborators”).

The Iberian Award consists of a competition for the presentation of projects carried out during 2020 in the field of Data Science.

2. REGISTRATION

Participation in the Iberian Award requires a previous online registration, until full capacity -detailed below- is reached. Registration: the first step will be registering done on the website, indicating within it, the name, surname, company, position and email of the participants interested in registering for the competition; the second step will be sending SAS the following documentation via email to the address: iberian.awards@sas.com

Registration for the Iberian Award is free. However, if necessary, expenses for participation in the Award such as travel, accommodation, subsistence, etc. will be assumed by the participants.

SAS reserves the right to reject the participation of any person who, in its sole discretion, does not meet the requirements described in these Terms; as well as those who, at the discretion of SAS, may act in an unlawful or unseemly manner or that, in any other way, prevent, hinder or affect the normal development of the contest by their actions and / or omissions.

If the number of registrants does not complete the minimum capacity foreseen (detailed below), the organization may cancel the event.

3. TEAMS

All participants must be native Portuguese or Spanish, OR, their projects must have been applied/executed  in the Iberian Territory.  

Participants have the possibility to register by teams or individually:

A)      Teams: Teams must be made up of a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4 people.

B)      Individually: Participants register individually.

The total number of projects will be a maximum of 40. If the number of projects is exceeded, the organization reserves the right to select the final projects at its sole discretion. Participants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The jury members may reject the projects for not being compliance with the terms and conditions, and therefore allowing the participation of new ones in the same number of those projects rejected, until getting the total 40 projects. SAS employees cannot participate in this competition.

4. Application AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Participants must use their own technical / computer equipment for their participation in the Iberian Award, such as computers or other material that they consider appropriate.

Selected participants must:

  • Guarantee the originality of the proposals and ideas presented. The criteria of the organization will be sufficient to determine whether or not there is originality of the proposals.

  • Likewise, the use of any type of work or element that may be protected by intellectual and / or industrial property rights, or that is know-how of a third party, will not be allowed; Unless the relevant rights and / or authorizations are obtained from their owners or, they are works or elements of free use. At any time during the contest and / or after it, participants may be required to prove the use of third-party intellectual creations.
  • Guarantee that the content of the creation does not include content of an illegal, illicit, indecent, obscene, racist, sexist or morally offensive nature.
  • Show professionalism and respect towards the rest of the participants at all times.

5. CHALLENGE

Our goal is to reward the most impressive projects developed in 2020 in one of these three areas:

  1. Data4Good: improving people's lives. Data Science projects focused on the social, environmental or public sector that represent an improvement in the quality of services, solve significant problems or have a positive impact on people's lives.
  2. Data4Business: Improving business results. Data Science projects that provide improvements in business processes and / or results. They can be related to a specific department or area, or be transversal to the entire organization.
  3. Data4Innovation: Innovation in Data Sciences. Projects in Data Science that represent an innovation that is not integrated into the concept of Data4Good or Data4Business, or that represent an innovation in technology (new algorithms; analytical models, etc.).

Given the Iberian nature of the award, with members of the jury from both Spain and Portugal, projects must be presented in English.

6. SELECTED TEAMS AND PARTICIPANTS

Selected teams and participants will be informed of their condition no later than June 10th , 2021, via email to the address used to register for the Iberian Award.

The teams and participants will have a period of 48 hours, from the time they are informed, to confirm their participation and attendance at the Iberian Award, responding to this notification e-mail.

As we will notify the selected participants via email, we highly recommend that you regularly check your SPAM folder, as it is possible that our e-mails automatically end up in this folder by your e-mail provider. We also recommend that you opt-in to receive communications from SAS

If selected participants do not respond within this period of time, they will be automatically removed from their participation in the contest, and the organization may, at its own discretion, substitute or not the participants and / or the teams by others who have requested their participation.

Likewise, in the event that a sufficient number of participants is not confirmed, in accordance with the minimum number provided (15 applications in total adding individual Participants and Teams), SAS reserves the right to suspend and declare the contest void without need to be communicated to the participants; However, the organizer, always within his possibilities, will try to notify the selected teams of the suspension.

7. THE JURY

The main jury will consist of a total of fourthree members:

  • Two members from SAS, Organizer of the award, one representing Portugal and one representing Spain. A member of SAS as Organizer of the Contest.
  • A member of SPAIN IAI, or committee designated by the association, as a Contest Collaborator.
  • A member of DSPA, or committee designated by the association, as a Contest Collaborator.

In addition, SAS may invite representatives from the academic world and Influencers from the field of Data Science who may provide additional background and analysis for the evaluation of the Projects, and form part of the jury.

The jury will choose two winning teams and / or participants: First Place (“Gold”) and Second Place (“Silver”), which will receive the prizes detailed below.

SAS will identify the criteria, together with the members of the jury, on which the jury will draw when choosing the winning teams for the Iberian Award.

8. AWARDS & PRIZES

The prizes will consist of:

  1. An economic prize of a total of TWO THOUSAND EUROS (€ 2,000) for the team or participant First Classified (“Gold”). Endowment per team, not per person.
  2. A economic prize of a total of ONE THOUSAND EUROS (€ 1,000) for the team or participant Second Classified (“Silver”). Endowment per team, not per person.

Additionally, each of the winners will receive the following SAS Courses free of charge:

For the Gold category

-          A training award for each category: Data for Good, Data for Business & Data for Innovation, consisting on 2 Licenses of any of the eLearning modules from SAS Data Science Academy.

-          The modules to choose are:

-          The Winner can choose a same person to learn two modules, or two people to learn one module each.

-          The total value of this prizes is 7.770 € (2.590 € for each category).

For the Silver category

-          A training award for each category: Data for Good, Data for Business & Data for Innovation, consisting on 1 License of any of the eLearning modules from SAS Data Science Academy.

-          The modules to choose are:

-          The total value of this award is 3.885 € (1.295 € for each category)

And for all participants: a 15% Discount on Training

  • 1 Voucher with a 15% Discount for all the participants to apply in any training activity with Iberia SAS Education:
  1. One voucher for each component of the team.
  2. 1 Year validity.
  3. Applicable to: classroom or live web courses, eLearning courses, learning subscription.
  4. Not applicable together with other offers or discounts.

In order to carry out the delivery of the prize, the winners must provide all the information required by SAS or by third parties on its behalf, such as identity documents, passports, etc.; Any delay or lack of delivery of the documentation and / or information required will be cause to withdraw the delivery of the prize.

The expenses that the winners may incur as a result of accepting the prize, such as travel, allowances or tax payments, etc. will be borne by the winners themselves.

The award is personal and non-transferable and will be divided equally among all members of the registered team.

The prizes that do not consist of an economical prize will not be replaceable for money. No alternative prizes will be offered if the winners decide to decline the prizes. The prizes may be subject to change or modification for reasons beyond SAS.

The prizes will be awarded to each winner on June 2021, (final date to be confirmed and informed) during a final ceremony to be held in a way to be determined by the jury.

If, due to force majeure or for any justified cause, SAS cannot disclose the identity of the winners on the date set forth herein, the publication of the failure of the jury will be carried out through SAS website as soon as possible.

SAS reserves the right to change the nature of the prizes in the event that it is not possible, for reasons beyond its control, to deliver the prizes specified in these rules. In this case, SAS undertakes that the prizes are of the same or very similar characteristics to those of the announced prizes and / or that their economic value is equal to or greater than that of the announced prizes.

Marketing or sale of the prize is prohibited. Furthermore, SAS is not responsible for the negligent or illegal use of the prize by the winners and finalists.

SAS and the jury reserve the right to leave the award void, if the level of the Projects does not meet the minimum quality and development requirements.

9. LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY, LIMITATION AND & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

SAS will not be responsible for damages, losses, or any other circumstance that, due to the enjoyment of the prizes and / or participation in the contest, the winners may suffer for causes that are not directly attributable to SAS; nor will it be liable for cases of force majeure or actions or omissions of third parties (such as after-sales service and / or product guarantee, manufacturer's obligation or whoever it determines) that could prevent the winners from enjoying the prizes. SAS will be exempt from all responsibility if any of the aforementioned events concur.

In the event of force majeure or due to duly justified cause (among others, any measure or situation aimed at safeguarding the physical integrity of the contest participants, attendees and jury caused by COVID-19) SAS reserves the right to modify the present contest rules at any time, and even to cancel it or render it without effect. In any case, SAS undertakes to communicate the modified Bases through the event website, so that all attendees / users have access to said information.

Participants commit to hold the organizers of the Iberian Award harmless for those infringements caused or that may have been caused to third parties with the participation of their ideas. Participants assume entirely at their own expense any cost that may arise in favor of these third parties, including legal costs of representation.

The intellectual property of the projects and proposals made and presented under the Iberian Award will belong to the participants.

10. TAXATION

Law 35/2006, of November 28, on Personal Income Tax and all its implementing regulations apply to the award provided here.

11. EXCLUSION CRITERIA

SAS reserves the right not to take into consideration in the competition those participants / teams who:

  • are misusing the tools used during their participation in the contest.
  • carry out fraudulent or unethical acts.
  • harm other participants.
  • Participants are not native Portuguese or Spanish, or either projects were not applied in Portugal or Spain

In the event that SAS or any entity that has a contractual relationship due to this competition detects any anomaly or suspects that someone is interfering with its normal development, it reserves the right not to take into consideration and even to withdraw the prize from automatically, to all those participants / teams that have benefited directly or indirectly from this type of action.

12. CONFIDENTIALITY

All information, documentation, software, training material and techniques made directly or indirectly available to the participants by the organizers and collaborators will be treated by the participants with absolute confidentiality, and cannot be disclosed to or transmitted to third parties by the participant, neither exploited by it nor in its name.

13. DATA PROTECTION AND IMAGE AND AUDIO RIGHTS

In compliance with the provisions of Regulation 2016/679 on the Protection of Personal Data (“RGPD”), in Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights (“ LOPDGDD ”) and in Organic Law 1/1982, of May 5, on the Protection of Honor, Privacy and image’s rights (hereinafter, “Organic Law 1/1982”) SAS will inform the participants about the treatment of their personal identification data and contact information ("Data") and their image and audio ("Image") as a result of their registration to participate in this Contest.

Next, we offer you the following information regarding the treatment of your Data and your Image:

Purposes of data processing:

  1. Concerning your Personal Data as a participant in the Award, the purpose is to allow your participation in said Competition, as well as to verify that the participation requirements are met according to the Award bases and, in case of being a winner, to proceed to the delivery of the Prize.
  2.  Concerning your Data and your image / voice: the purpose of the processing is the collection of images, audios and videos, in the acts that take place during the execution of the event. By participating in the Award, you agree to transfer these images & sounds rights to the promoters of the initiative, who may use said images, voice, audios and videos, as well as your name, and your project’s title and summary, in any medium (both physical and digital -social networks, internal / external communication media, web pages, etc.), and under any medium or format, for the exclusive purposes of promoting and disseminating the Iberian Award.

Legitimation of the processing: The legitimizing basis of the processing for the purposes previously identified are the following:

  1.  The express consent of the Participant that is granted by registering as a participant in this Contest.
  2.  Concerning the authorization and assignment for the use of the participant's image / voice, the express consent of the Participant by marking the box included at the end of the document. For the avoidance of doubt, this processing will only be carried out if you expressly consent to it by marking this box.

Recipients of the Data: Whenever you authorize it, your data and your image / audio will be transferred to the Event Organizers for the purposes indicated above. In addition, in case of legal obligation or need, your Personal Data may be transferred to entities such as, for example, the Judiciary and Law Enforcement Bodies, Judges, Public Prosecutor's Office, Courts and Tribunals and other Public Administrations or Authorities that require it in the exercise of their powers.

International data transfers: No international data transfers are planned.

Data conservation period: Your personal data will be kept until the end of the Contest and, in the case of the winners, until the end of the enjoyment of the prize, if necessary.

Regarding the consent for the use of your image / voice, we will make use of them indefinitely until you withdraw the consent, which you can do at any time by contacting SAS by the indicated means.

Rights: You can exercise the rights of access, rectification, deletion, opposition, limitation of treatment and, when legally applicable, portability, by sending a request to our company to the address mentioned above, indicating the right that you exercise and providing a photocopy (on both sides) of your ID or legal document of identification. Likewise, we inform you of the right to file a claim in Spain with the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (www.agpd.es).

As long as you authorize us by checking the following box, SAS and the Event Organizers may publish the images of the participants who have been designated as winners on their website and on social media. The transfer of the use of the image is free of charge, so the participants will not receive any type of consideration or economical compensation for said transfer.

Each and every one of the individual participants and / or components of each team must read and expressly consent individually to the processing that will be carried out on their personal data:

 

Participant / All Team Members:

 I declare I have read the privacy policy and expressly consent to the capture of my image and audio in which I may appear and the transfer to the Collaborators for use for the purposes indicated above..

 

This authorization will cover the transfer of the use of your image in accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 1/1982, on the Protection of Honor, Privacy and image’s rights, in the terms set forth in the previous paragraphs; and without it being understood an illegitimate interference in their right to the owner's own image.

 

14. ACCEPTANCE OF CONTEST TERMS & CONDITIONS

Participation in the Iberian Award implies acceptance of these rules.

15. JURISDICTION AND COURTS.

For the knowledge of any litigation that may arise regarding the interpretation or application of these Legal Bases, the applicable legislation to the current bases will be the Spanish Legislation.

The participants and SAS accept that any controversies that may arise in the interpretation or execution of these bases will be subject, as long as the regulations that result from application do not establish another imperatively, to the jurisdiction of the Courts and Tribunals of the City of Madrid.
