Sue Geuens

President of DAMA SA

Sue started in Data Management during 1996 when she was handed a disk with a list of builders on it and told they were hers to manage. Sue mentions this as fate taking over and providing her with what she was "meant to do". Various data roles later, her clients numbered 3 of the top 4 banking institutions in SA, a number of telco's and various pension funds, insurance companies and health organisations. Sue was the initial designer of data quality matching algorithms for a SA built Data Quality and Matching tool (Plasma Mind). This experience has stood her in good stead as she has slowly but surely climbed the ladder in Southern Africa to become the first CDMP in the country.

Sue worked tirelessly on starting up DAMA SA with the successful Inaugural meeting in February of 2009. She was unanimously voted as President just prior to this event. From that time on Sue has been the leader and driving force of the DAMA SA Board. Sue has been the DAMAI VP Operations since 2011 and has just been voted in as the DAMA I President for 2014. She is a sought after presenter and has been a prominent speaker at EDW in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013, DAMA Brazil, DAMA Australia in 2013 and IRMUK in 2006 and 2011. Her thought-provoking presentation on Practical Data Governance has sparked interest all over the world and she has been asked to return to a number of countries to meet with key clients on this topic.
  

Len Berzen

Manager Architecture - Enterprise Architecture & Technology, SARS

Len's has 26 years of experience in Government, Tax, Customs, Financial Service and Banking, amongst others industries - all linked to Data Governance. His experience ranges from being an to woking for one of the Worls’s leading Toll Road management and development organisations, Intertol. In November 1999 he was headhunted by McGregor BFA to start a new division called the Intranet Division. Len formed part of a brand new strategic initiative in 2001 for Idion Solutions utilizing Microsoft technologies to build new and exciting solutions for the corporate market.

Len was contracted by SARS in 2005 to startup the SARS Center of IT Excellence which was established to address the requirement to transform and enable IT to meet the integration, governance and skills issues. Presently, some of his responsibilities include principal architectural responsibility for technology and core tax systems and projects inclusive of SAP. Len's expanded strategic role includes technical consultation on key government technical projects and initiatives for the Minister of Finance.

In 2011 he was awarded the Amakhwezi Commissioners Award and Exceptional Team Award for the World Cup Movement Control System deployed for the Department of Home Affairs. For the last 7 years, Len has been part of the Top 10% of SARS performer and bonus earners.
  

Antionette Van Zyl

Senior Solution Manager : Data Management, SAS

Antionette van Zyl has extensive knowledge in Data Quality and Data Integration and her working experience in the financial sector has given her various opportunities to show case her aptitude in developing a strategic MIS board report for the Absa Group Executive team using SAS technologies. In the 9 years of working in this environment Antionette has gained significant practical and market experience in the Information Management world and all the aspects thereof.

In her role she established a Data Quality function for the entire bank and in so doing received a bronze management award for her work. Other responsibilities were the establishment of a Risk and Information Security function within the bank, where she worked closely with the Data Warehouse and their integration technologies as well as the Information Architects and other information providers to the business.
