The New EU Data
Protection
Regulation GDPR

Tuesday 21 February 2017

Insight Session - The new EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The new EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), adopted in 2016, will apply as from May 2018. Companies established in the EU or processing EU consumer data have to comply with the new regulation by spring 2018. If not they can face fines of up to € 20 million or 4% of their global annual turnover.

The new legislation will set the scene for the protection of personal data. The way personal data is defined is an important aspect of the new law. The GDPR refers to personal data as data that allows the identification of an individual, directly or indirectly. More specifically, this means that also IP-addresses, location data or other factors that can identify a person, are covered by the new law. In that sense, the European regulator is catching up with reality.

The new legislation sets high standards for your organization for the storage and processing of personal data and also means that you have to deal differently with your data privacy and governance policies.

During the insight session you will hear:

  • The challenges of the new EU GDPR and how you can remain compliant?
  • The consequences for your organization regarding data privacy and data governance.
  • How SAS can support your organization in the 'road to compliance', providing experiences and best practices.
  • Experiences of experts and other companies.
