Welcome to the SAS FANS User Event on 27th November!

Welcome to this year's final SAS FANS User Event in London on Wednesday, 27th November. 

Join us for a festive edition of SAS FANS to learn, exchange ideas, and network with peers.

Phil Gee, Nationwide Building Society, will share some learnings and best practices on Hash Objects & Arrays, and Henry Newman-Burke, Butterfly Data, will help us answer the question, "What if Santa Claus was moving house?"

Outside the speaker sessions, try out SAS AI Golf and a unique version of Space Invaders created by Katalyze Data, which connects to SAS Visual Analytics, to test your competitive spirit and have some fun.

4 pm – 4:15 pm: Welcome

4:15 pm – 5:00 pm: Hash Objects and Arrays - What are they good for? (Phil Gee, Nationwide Building Society)

In this session, we will cover:

  • Using Hash Objects for Runtime Efficiency
    How hash objects, with Arrays, were applied to existing code for IFRS9 Forecasts
  • Hash Objects
    Defining a Hash Object for non-sequential merge (lookup)
  • Using Hash Objects in Data Step
    The .Find() method to bring data from the hash into the PDV
  • Using Hash Objects in Data Steps
    The .Add(), the .Replace() and the .Output() methods to put data from the PDV into the hash and output the hash objects as datasets.

5.15 pm – 5:45 pm: What if Santa was moving house? (Henry Newman-Burke, Butterfly Data)

House moves can take a lot of time, effort, and consideration—particularly when you're in the North Pole and have several pets (reindeer) to go with you. Henry Newman-Burke talks us through all the factors and considerations needed when moving house (upgrading or migrating).

5:45 pm – 7:30 pm: Food, Drinks, Fun and Networking

We finish the day by networking over food and drinks and trying out SAS AI Golf and a unique version of Space Invaders created by Katalyze Data, which connects to SAS Visual Analytics, to test your competitive spirit and have fun.

Phil Gee
Risk Manager, Nationwide Building Society

Phil Gee is a data engineer and analyst who has used SAS for 15 years in financial services. He has run the Nationwide SAS User Group for 3 years and regularly presents to that group on all things SAS 9.4. He has worked mainly in Risk, with roles in Capital Reporting and Fraud MI. He is now on Nationwide’s IFRS9/Provisions Forecasting team.

Henry Newman-Burke
Principal IT Consultant, Butterfly Data

Henry is an experienced data consultant who has worked across multiple sectors, both private and public. He has shown what it is to be an accomplished SAS administrator and systems expert. Hard-working, professional, and focused on customer-driven objectives, Henry is adept at identifying the best solutions for the best situations. Outside work, he enjoys playing the church organ and watching classic films.
