Regulation to Innovation: E 23, Model Risk, and Responsible AI in Practice

Nanette is a qualified actuary and a leader in Deloitte’s insurance practice, leading the model risk management service offering for insurance companies. With nearly twenty years of diverse experience in the North American insurance industry, including roles at a major global life insurer and at Deloitte, she brings deep expertise in model validation, systems transformation, actuarial liability and capital valuation, risk management, and audit. In recent years, she has worked closely with insurers to enhance their model risk management frameworks in response to evolving regulatory expectations. Nanette is passionate about helping organizations strengthen model governance and oversight to drive better risk management and business outcomes.

Shruthi is a leader in Deloitte's AI and model risk practice. She has over eight years of experience in data, financial, and AI/ML modeling. She currently leads the validation of continuously evolving Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), ensuring compliance with OSFI E-23 and SR 11-7 regulatory guidelines and promoting responsible AI adoption among Deloitte’s financial sector clients. She has also managed key client relationships and led validation efforts in the credit risk modeling space, including AIRB, IFRS 9, CECL, and adjudication/behavioral scoring models, across model development, validation, and review functions.

Steven Tiell helps SAS customers to accelerate AI-driven innovation. A recognized pioneer in Data Ethics and AI Governance, Steven previously founded and led Accenture’s global practice in this field, where he coined the term “Responsible Innovation” for AI in 2018. He has advised and led AI initiatives at more than 60 organizations across 10 industries. His influential work includes developing AI policy frameworks and regulatory guidance for the Monetary Authority of Singapore and with the Atlantic Council GeoTech Center, where he is a Nonresident Senior Fellow. ​

Steven also served as Vice President for AI Strategy at DataStax, which has been acquired by IBM. He holds patents for data trusts and has held fellowships in Digital Trust and Metaverse Governance at the World Economic Forum. He is also NACD Directorship Certified and a Forum participant at OpenAI.

Based in San Francisco, where he plays and coaches underwater hockey, Steven holds a BS in Computer Science Engineering and an MBA in Sustainable Management. ​
