The 14 principles of BCBS 239 cover a lot of ground, addressing areas ranging from IT infrastructure and governance arrangements, to the way that risk management departments generate ad hoc reports. With the responsibility to promote the identification, assessment and management of data quality risks falling on the shoulders of the Board and senior management adherence to these principles offers clear benefits to the Banks, but implementation can present major technology and governance challenges.

The aim of this short update is to draw for the CROs & CIOs the essence of the BCBS 239 regulation and to translate it in concrete requirements and practical steps so to help Banks meet the challenge.
