Topic of the Challenge:
Smart Energy – Identify the leak in district heating
Leakage in the distribution network is one of the most common problems in the area of District Heating. Not only are they costful, they also result in lower efficiency in the heating system.
A common way to identify leakages is to equip an airplane with a heatcamera and fly over the distribution network. Although it is efficient, it is costful and cannot be used on a regular basis, therefor a leak can take from several month to years to be discovered. This leads to larger energy consumption than necessary and the cost of the water leaking out of the system is considerable.
We will examine if different analysis method can be used to identify leakage in the distribution network. If advance analytical method can be used to discover leaks in the district heating, it will potential save large amount of energy as well as reduce water consumption since the network can be monitored constantly for potential leaks.
