The promise of big data has tantalized the industry for years, but until recently, few organizations have been able to use the data they’ve collected to solve business problems. While big data as a term is being viewed in some circles as a catchphrase, it is important to understand the real impact of the big data phenomenon. In December 2012, a global survey was developed to understand the current state of the big data industry. This report presents the results of that survey and includes insights about: how companies are planning big data strategies, the technologies they’re using as the foundation for these strategies and how they’re using big data to solve real business problems.
