SAS summit wants to use data, tech to improve public safety

A public safety summit hosted by SAS drew public officials and law enforcement to Cary on Wednesday to talk about new ways to improve safety. About 150 people gathered to talk about statistics, data patterns and new technology that could improve law enforcement, fight the opioid epidemic and help stop domestic abuse.

SAS said the goal of the summit is to identify current problems in law enforcement and public safety and how the company's technologies can help solve them. In many cases the solution combines data and technology that's already available and uses it in more productive ways.

"If some folks walk out of here today saying wow that technology was something I didn't know was there, then we've had a successful day," said Stephen Serrao of SAS.
