Playing With FHIR: How Many Ways Can You Read JSON Data in SAS® Viya®?

On-Demand • Cost: Complimentary

About the webinar

Health care organizations frequently encounter data sets that are expressed in the HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standard.

In this webinar, we’ll show you how to use both SAS and Python to make RESTful API calls to retrieve data sets and parse FHIR-conformant JSON data, all from within SAS Viya.

This webinar is for members of enterprise organizations responsible for data and analytics initiatives within the health care sector.

It will be particularly helpful for payers who are affected by the May 2020 CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule and need to accelerate process modernization efforts to comply.

You should have a basic understanding of how to manipulate data read from flat files or relational database systems using SAS data steps or the Python pandas package.

You will learn how to:

  • Retrieve data from RESTful APIs using requests written in both Python and SAS.
  • Use the JSON libref engine or Python JSON parsers to read and interpret complex JSON data sets.
  • Read and interpret data sets that are conformant with the HL7 FHIR standard using SAS and Python.
