SAS CIO Collins inducted into inaugural NC State Computer Science Alumni Hall of Fame

SAS Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer Keith Collins has been inducted into the North Carolina State University Computer Science (CSC) Alumni Hall of Fame. The CSC Alumni Hall of Fame was established to celebrate and recognize the exemplary contributions the university’s outstanding graduates have made to their profession, their community and the world at large.

A 1982 graduate in computer science, Collins has maintained a strong relationship with NC State throughout his career. A former NC State Engineering Foundation Board member, he is an emeritus and founding member of the Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board. Together with the advisory board, Collins and his wife, Margie, helped launch the Diversity in Computer Science Scholarship Endowment. In 2003, Collins became the first computer science alumnus to be recognized as a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus at NC State. He also worked with the computer science department to help chart a new course to the emerging field of data science.

“Keith’s commitment to computer science education is admirable,” said SAS CEO Jim Goodnight. “We are proud of the many accomplishments that earned him this recognition, which is especially meaningful coming from the original birthplace of SAS. Our entire organization benefits from Keith’s dedication and strategic direction.”

The 25 inaugural inductees were all unanimous choices by the selection committee.  To be eligible, nominees should have demonstrated exceptional professional, entrepreneurial and/or service achievements in their selected careers. Factors for consideration included technical innovation, strategic impact, community relations and service to the computer science discipline.

“This is an exceptional group of individuals who have all, in some way or another, impacted our lives in a very positive way,” said Laurie Williams, NC State Computer Science Interim Department Head. “By recognizing our most distinguished alumni, we hope they will serve as an inspiration for current and future students.”
