COPD Foundation - Improving People’s Lives in a Digital World: How the COPD Foundation Does It

Health Care

Small & Medium Businesses

With over 50,000 members representing more than 150 countries, the US-based nonprofit COPD Foundation helps high-risk patients with chronic lung conditions. Early during the COVID-19 pandemic, the COPD Foundation used text analytics to uncover insights from member surveys and prioritize the needs of the population it serves. This session will cover how the foundation, with help from SAS partner Pinnacle Solutions:

  • Adopted analytics and innovated at speed to virtually help patients who were at much higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
  • Applied analytics to data-driven decisions.
  • Implemented analytics in a public cloud environment to improve patients' lives, including those who cannot access or do not use technology such as the internet.
  • Is building its future plans, and how AI and ML fit in the picture.

Dompé Farmaceutici - Reimagine Health Care: Predictive Medicine

Life Sciences

It’s an increasing challenge to develop medications that address the most compelling, unmet present (cancer, metabolic, autoimmune and infective) diseases and future (aging) medical needs. It requires a paramount paradigm shift starting with a bold reimagining of the R&D process that results in a new role for health care in our data-driven society.

The current dogma to “divide and conquer” one disease with one drug collides with the intrinsic systemic and deeply interconnected nature of physiological and pathological processes.

The challenge of a new medicine leans on our ability to transform health care data into structured information that can feed enhanced models. Population-level profiling will unlock the development of truly predictive disease models based on quantitative system pharmacology algorithms.

Are new incomers from the information economy able to foster the evolution from actual research and development (trial-and-error method) to a method of model and cure (design on purpose)?
