SAS named best place to work for work/life balance by Glassdoor
SAS has been named the best place to work for work/life balance, according to Glassdoor.com, a social jobs and careers community where people share information and opinions about the places they work. The site just released its third-annual list of the Top 25 Companies for Work-Life Balance, and the business analytics leader has appeared in the top 5 all three years.
"The very best companies for work-life balance recognize that while work is an important part of our lives, it isn't everything," Glassdoor spokesperson Samantha Zupan told Forbes. "It's important for employers to recognize that fostering a healthy sense of work-life balance among employees can have both short- and long-term benefits. In the short term, employees are likely to feel more satisfied, and in the long term they are likely to be loyal and stay with the company longer."
SAS Vice President of Human Resources Jenn Mann explains, "At SAS, our goal is to offer meaningful work for our employees, an empowering management philosophy and a world-class work environment that includes services and benefits to make employees' lives easier at work and in their personal lives. This allows them to be motivated, creative and innovative in our software development. It's critical for us to provide a workplace that incentivizes great talent. What we create at SAS is a product of the mind of our employees, so creating a work environment that fosters creativity and innovation is critical for us to be successful."
This philosophy earned SAS the No. 2 ranking on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list in 2013. SAS attracts the best talent in the industry by bolstering the thrill of challenging work with employee-friendly benefits. Among the many on-site amenities are health care, recreational facilities, child care and work-life resources. Believing that happy, healthy employees are productive employees, SAS offers a wide range of programs that reduce stress and distraction, so employees can focus on their work – tangible evidence of integrating company values with employee needs.
The Glassdoor report is based entirely on feedback shared by employees within the past year. To be considered for the ranking, each company had to receive at least 50 employee-generated work-life balance reviews between July 2, 2012 and July 1, 2013 (and a minimum of 10 from the previous year).
