Between the Insurance Practitioner and the Regulator: Governing AI Risk in Canadian Insurance

September 15th, 2026 | 11 am ET

Artificial intelligence (AI) is moving deeper into underwriting, pricing, reserving, and capital, and the harder question for Canadian insurers has become how to govern it well enough to satisfy boards, auditors, and supervisors at once. This one-hour panel brings together Bruce Langstroth, a frontline insurance supervisor from OSFI and Mukhbir Singh Rai from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) for a candid conversation about where regulatory risk frameworks stand today and where they are heading.

Hosted and moderated by Max Samadov, Head of Risk Advisory - Americas (SAS), the discussion covers the expectations now shaping model and enterprise risk management, including E-23 and the wider supervisory agenda; the emerging risks AI introduces and amplifies; the practical steps insurers can take now to prepare; and the priorities regulators expect to tackle next. It is built for actuaries and risk practitioners who want a clear, hype-free read on what "good" looks like as supervision catches up with the technology.
