About the Experts

Ryan Burg
Director, Data Services
Alberta Health

Ryan Burg has worked in Information Technology for over 20 years. Starting out as a mainframe technician with IBM, Ryan has been involved in a wide variety of the IT landscape. For the past 8 years Ryan has focused on Data Management and has taken lead roles both within Alberta Health and Service Alberta. Currently the Director of Data Services at Alberta Health, Ryan will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the Alberta Health Data Safe Haven, an initiative that plans to redefine data collaboration in Alberta. Ryan resides in Edmonton with his wife and three son’s, all extremely active in minor football. While deeply involved in technology on a daily basis, the Burg family prefers to park the technology most weekends and explore the outdoors with their snowmobiles and ATV’s.

Doug Dover
Senior Statistician,
Pharmacy and Health Research, University of Alberta

Doug is a long time SAS user (measured in decades, not minutes!) and president of the Edmonton SAS Users Group (eSUG). As a long time user of health data – at Alberta Health Services – Cancer Control, the Alberta Ministry of Health, and now the Canadian VIGOUR Centre at the University of Alberta – Doug has worked with all kinds of data from registries, surveys and administrative health data sources. Of particular interest to him is the statistical analysis and SAS methods for manipulating administrative health data. On those rare occasions he’s not working in SAS, he loves playing board games with his family and playing with his two, small, 95 pound puppies.
