Michigan chooses SAS® Analytics for statewide fraud detection, prevention
Fraud in unemployment insurance, food stamps are initial focus areas
Michigan has selected SAS® Analytics to power its statewide fraud detection system. Using SAS Fraud Framework for Government, Michigan's Enterprise Fraud Detection System (EFDS) will first be used to fight fraud, waste and abuse in the state's unemployment insurance and food stamp programs. In the future, EFDS will help the state more easily spot fraud across all executive branch departments and programs.

Michigan's Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) chose the SAS Fraud Framework for Government to detect where fraud occurs, as well as uncover improper claims before they are paid, avoiding costly and high-risk collections.
Unemployment insurance, mandated by federal statute and administered by states, provides a temporary safety net for workers who lose their jobs. According to the US Department of Labor, 2012 saw $10.3 billion in improper unemployment insurance payments across the country.
The EFDS will initially integrate and analyze data from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency and the state's Departments of Human Services and Community Health. Additional data sources will be added over time.
