About the Sport / Disclaimer
Curling is a “slippery game" and it is played on ice. The Leaside Curling Club will accept no responsibility for injury, which could occur while using the curling facilities. When entering the curling rink, each person is responsible for his or her own personal safety. Each participant should be aware of this policy prior to attending the event.
Place all, coins, keys etc… at the end of the rink. Items such as this can melt into the ice in seconds and cause major troubles for the ice technicians.
Rocks must never be lifted from the ice surface. They can be slid around using your feet or brush. Please do not let any moving rocks hit the hacks. The hacks can be lifted from the ice and this will give us even bigger problems.
Step onto the ice with your gripper foot first!
If you fall, do not remain on the ice. Your warm body will melt the curling ice and distort the playing surface.
You will be using muscles you have never used before - be careful. If you feel any pain or stiffness, PLEASE STOP!
Your broom can be used at first for a stabilizing device. This helps to avoid falls. Get used to the ice slowly. We don't want anyone to fall.
What to bring
Please bring CLEAN RUNNING SHOES to curl in, in a separate carrying bag.
Please ensure your running shoes have been properly cleaned and are free of any loose material before entering the ice. Please CARRY the shoes that you plan to curl in to the club. The ice surface can be damaged very easily. It is the most important component of the Leaside Curling Club.
If you go outside please change your footwear. Do not wear your running shoes outside and return to the ice surface.
For the ice, you will require warm loose-fitting clothing worn in layers (as per our dress regulations)
All members and guests are required to conform to the dress regulations of the club. These regulations have been instituted to maintain the standards of good taste and decorum expected by the membership. Jeans, denim wear, see-through shirts, tank tops, T-shirts, jogging / rugger pants, spandex wear, short shorts or short skirts are not acceptable on the property or in the clubhouse. Hats must not be worn in the clubhouse and must never be worn backwards.
Personal Communication Device Use at the Club during Meetings
Please be aware that the policy prohibits the use of Cell phones, picture phones and PDA’s in any area of the Clubhouse, with the exception of your meeting room.
The club would appreciate if your communication devices were set at vibrate and that you use them within your function room in a discreet manner.
