About this paper
Stress testing requirements for banks have increased dramatically since 2007, and it's expected that these demands will continue intensifying. In response, banks have simply thrown more people at the problem. But these "check the box" stress testing efforts don't help banks run their business more profitably and within acceptable levels of risk. This paper suggests that what's needed is a way to operationalize and automate mandatory stress testing in order to free up resources for value-added, business-specific stress testing. Business-specific stress tests, which are designed to test real-world scenarios defined by line-of-business managers -- can help decision makers walk the tightrope between opportunity and risk – and drive better performance.
