SAS CIO Keith Collins named Computerworld 2015 Premier 100 IT Leader

Collins recognized for innovative IT vision and management of IT strategies

Keith Collins, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at business analytics leader SAS, has been recognized by Computerworld as one of the business world's Premier 100 IT Leaders.

Collins was selected in part due to his creation of an open, collaborative business environment, and for finding ways to improve efficiency by solving internal business needs using SAS® technology. This, in turn, ensures that the technology SAS develops for customers is top-notch. Collins has transformed the IT division of SAS while keeping it nimble and maintaining the culture that SAS is known for.

"The Premier 100 awards program showcases the innovative work of a dedicated group of IT leaders who are using technology to solve business problems in their organizations," said Scot Finnie, Editor in Chief of Computerworld. "Every day, these tech-savvy professionals are positioning their organizations for success by mapping IT projects to strategic business initiatives. They also ensure that their departments are set up to quickly enable new ideas, and they balance the need for free and open access to information with concerns about security and compliance. These 100 men and women are using their vast experience in managing people and projects to stay a step ahead. We're pleased to recognize their leadership and honor their achievements."

Now in its 16th year, the Premier 100 IT Leaders award recognizes individuals who creatively apply technology to execute business strategy. This year, other winners include IT executives from Coca-Cola, MasterCard, Verizon, Procter & Gamble, Microsoft and Bank of America.

Collins, who joined SAS in 1984, is passionate about delivering on the promise of big data and big analytics. Except for a stint in sales, he directed research and development at SAS for most of his career, including 13 years as Chief Technology Officer. His latest charter is to redefine the role of IT from tactical to strategic and to accelerate SAS into the cloud. A graduate of North Carolina State University in computer science, Collins is a founding member of the computer science department’s strategic advisory board. In 2003, the university named him a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus. Collins also serves as an advisor for Bull City Venture Partners and is a patron of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

About the Premier 100

The Premier 100 program was created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had a positive impact on their organizations through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies. Each year nominees are invited to complete a survey that addresses a number of topics, including their background and experience and their attitude toward risk and innovation. Using Computerworld’s IT Leader Index, which is a measurement of how closely an individual matches our definition of the IT Leader, we analyze the data. Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this lifetime recognition award. Information on previous honorees can be viewed at www.computerworld.com/s/article/9065479/Premier_100_IT_Leaders.
