SAS donates €24,000 to assist people in need
Support for charitable organizations and initiatives in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
The coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has made life even more challenging for the socially disadvantaged. Charitable giving such as the donations made each year by the Heidelberg analytics and AI firm SAS has become all the more important. The company will donate a total of €24,000 this year to charitable causes in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
One long-standing tradition SAS will continue to support in 2020 is the Christmas fund drive of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung. SAS will contribute €15,000 to the initiative, which assists low-income families with children, single parents, seniors who live alone, and people confronted with serious hardships. In Switzerland, SAS is donating CHF 5,500 to Kispex, a children’s ambulant care provider in the Canton of Zurich. A sum of €4,000 is marked for the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute in Austria.
The donations are just part of the many ways SAS supports its communities and the arts. Now headquartered in Heidelberg for over 30 years, SAS is a long-standing sponsor of many cultural and athletic events in the region and has continued to provide this support despite the cancellation of most events in 2020. Among the recipients are the Classic Scouts program of the Heidelberger Frühling music festival, Enjoz Jazz, Germany’s largest jazz festival, and the SAS Half Marathon.
As part of #GivingTuesday, SAS is also organizing a donation campaign in the DACH region. Smartphones, tablets, and ebook readers are being collected with proceeds going to three sustainable health and education projects in Africa.
“Companies have a big responsibility, especially during times like these — not only to their employees, but also to their communities,” said Annette Green, vice president DACH at SAS. “That’s why we will continue to fund important projects in 2020 as part of our goal to help the disadvantaged. This is particularly important considering how acute the the current situation has become, which is making it difficult for many to have a nice Christmas and manage during these winter months.”
