SAS presents award to Swiss companies

Nestlé, TWINT and ZHAW impress with innovative big data business models and analytic sophistication

The Business Analytics Performer 2016 award was presented by SAS at this year's SAS Forum Switzerland to TWINT AG, Nestlé R&D and Zürcher Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften (ZHAW). This award is granted by SAS for extraordinary projects that demonstrate the value of analytics in an impressive manner. It is traditionally awarded at the annual analytics conference, which took place this year on June 1st in the Zürich Kongresshaus.

The research department Nestlé R&D received the award for the innovative approach with which they use the current life science analytics technology from SAS to improve the processes of their product development work. Nestlé R&D uses the SAS Framework for clinical development, data management, and collaboration with external partners — thus accomplishing the typical work required in the field of FDA-compliant research. With the central repository, the company has acquired faster access to data and information relevant to studies. This shortens response times and ensures a continually high level of product quality. One aspect worthy of special emphasis is the integrated approach, which unifies data management, statistical analysis, data visualization, and the presentation of the final results. Laura Gosoniu and Carlos Antonio De Castro, both biostatisticians in the Clinical Development Unit at Nestlé Research Center, accepted the award in Zurich.

As a modern, digital, and analytically driven company, TWINT AG was honored with a Business Analytics Performer Award. It is a tribute on the one hand to the business idea of the company, which relies entirely upon the use of data, and on the other hand to the team that is dedicated to making this vision a reality. With SAS, TWINT combines the payment process and marketing seamlessly and in real time. For this, the company, represented by Dominic Senn, head of business development at TWINT, was awarded at the SAS Forum.

Also awarded as a Business Analytics Performer 2016 was ZHAW. This leading higher education institution is the first academic body in Switzerland to rely on the state-of-the-art SAS Visual Analytics solution in the classroom, a reaction to the significantly increasing importance of big data for the economy. ZHAW in this way is ensuring that students are able to respond to analytic questions with fit-for-purpose, fast, and efficient answers. In future, students will be able to earn a certificate in SAS Visual Analytics during their studies at ZHAW, which represents additional added value for graduates as well as for potential employers. Representing the institution, the lecturer Dr. Roger Seiler and two project managers and research assistants, Hannes Schüle and Rolf Rellstab, accepted the award in Zurich.
