What's New in SAS® Visual Analytics

Check out some of the new features available in the current release.

Get analytic insights – automatically.

Automated analysis.

Get a jump start on your analysis. Pick the variable you want to understand, and SAS Visual Analytics will analyze your data set to determine which elements drive your variable – and how. It’s a great way to see relationships in your data quickly.

Measures and categories analyzed.

Need to understand what’s behind your revenues? Or perhaps you need to find out if a customer is an early adopter or one of the late majority. Automated analysis works whether you need to learn about measures or categorical variables.

Explanations you can understand.

SAS Visual Analytics delivers your automated analysis results using simple, natural language explanations and easy-to-understand visualizations so you can grasp essential insights quickly.

Create report summaries with dynamic values.

Overviews with dynamic values.

Dynamic report summaries let you write report overviews that feature dynamic values. That means your report consumers can get the main points without having to open the report.

Summaries with logic.

Use the open Velocity Template Language to create dynamic summaries that change based on what’s happening in your data. For example, if quarterly sales met targets, you could summarize your quarterly sales report like this: “Sales for the quarter met targets. We’re doing great!” If sales exceeded targets, your summary could read: “Quarterly sales exceeded targets by 21%!”

Dynamic report summary distribution.

When you schedule report distributions, you’ll have the option to include the dynamic report summary in the body of your email. Recipients can quickly get critical information in a readable format, right in their inbox.

Take advantage of new visual options.

Thick bars? Thin bars? You decide.

Fine-tune the spacing between your bars to get the perfect look for your report. You can increase the spacing for thinner bars, or decrease it for thicker bars.

Column total disabling.

Get more granular control over how you display totals in your list tables. You can enable them for a specific column or two, and disable them for others. For example, show totals for your revenue column, but disable them for your average growth rate column.

Tables with – or without – white space.

Whether you want tables with ample white space or a more condensed look, you can pick what works best for your report with a click.

Make once. Use again. Save time.

Report data views.

Easily create multiple views of your data. For example, you could hide some columns and/or add calculated columns in one view, while filtering out data in another view. You could also your report data views to use with other reports, or share them with your team. Report data views won't change your underlying tables, so you don't have to worry about breaking your data.

Common filters.

Save time filtering your data using common filters. Create a filter once, and apply it to multiple object by simply dragging and dropping it. You can even save common filters with your report data views, and share them with your colleagues.

Saved object templates.

If you’ve spent a lot of time fine-tuning your objects, make sure your efforts pay off. Save your customized object settings as object templates, and reuse them in all your reports. If you’re an administrator, you can even share object templates with all report authors.

Saved selection states.

As you gain insights from a report, SAS Visual Analytics will remember what you select, so you don't have to. Analyze your data, go to lunch, then pick up right where you left off when you return. You'll never again have to retrace your steps.

Create better data experiences.

SAS Visual Analytics showing playable dashboards on desktop monitor

Playable dashboards.

With playable dashboards, viewers can experience your dashboards in gorgeous full screen. Your dashboards will automatically transition between pages or objects based on the timings you set. Whether in a hallway or a conference room, playable dashboards will make it easier to keep your organization in sync with the latest metrics.

Design grid and smart guides.

A new design grid and smart guides will make designing beautiful reports and dashboards even easier. You can lay out reports with precision on a grid, or use dynamic smart guides to find the perfect size and place for your report elements.

Object, page and report refresh rates.

Set refresh rates for individual objects, pages or your entire report. You could set your pie chart to refresh data every 10 seconds and your histogram to refresh every five minutes. With controllable refresh rates, you'll be able to create the best viewing experience for the kind of data you're working with.

Take your tables to the next level.

Table cell graphs.

Tables will let you see your data not just with numbers, but also with cell visualizations like bar and heat maps. These cell visualizations enable you to quickly identify problem points and see trends in your data, right from the table.

Number compaction.

Save space – and make your tables more readable – with just a click. Compact numbers simplify big numbers into something that's easier to digest; for example, you would see $18M instead of $18,004,281. And because numbers are compacted using a visual style, you'll never lose the underlying precision of your data.

More table enhancements.

Table improvements include multicolumn sorting, alternating row colors in crosstabs, and the ability to condense or expand row height, enabling you to give your cell graphs even more room to shine.

Find the 'where' in your  data.

SAS Visual Analytics showing Esri Geocoding on desktop monitor

Esri Geocoding integration.

With Esri Geocoding and an Esri ArcGIS Online account, you'll be able to geocode location information in your data. Whether you have addresses, zip codes, country names, etc., you can geocode them and use them for visualization and analysis.

Geographic point identification.

Quickly identify point of interest on a geomap with the new identify geographic point feature. You can easily determine location context for your geographic data – like what store is located next to one of your retail locations.

Animated regions.

Your location data changes across time, and now you can animate your geographic regions accordingly. For example, you could see how sales change across sales regions, or find out how demand for seats on a plane change with time.

And that's not all.

SAS Visual Analytics showing mobile SDK on desktop monitor

Custom app building with mobile software development kits (SDKs).

Keep your employees data-driven wherever they go by using SAS® SDK for iOS and SAS® SDK for Android to create powerful mobile apps for accessing content on your SAS® Viya® server. You can create customized mobile apps to include your corporate theme and logo, as well as preload specific reports. You can even embed SAS Visual Analytics content within your customized mobile apps. The mobile SDKs also provide APIs for integrating your mobile apps with your mobile device management (MDM) service.

SAS® Visual Analytics for everyone.

The new release of SAS Visual Analytics will work with the SAS Graphics Accelerator, enabling users with visual impairments to create, explore and share visualizations. It supports alternative ways to present data visualizations – including enhanced visual rendering, text descriptions, tabular data and interactive, non-speech audio to convey relevant information about a graph.

SAS Visual Analytics accessibility features shown on desktop monitor

SAS® Drive improvements.

SAS Drive now includes many new interface enhancements, support for dynamic report summaries, improved drag-and-drop capabilities, and more. It also gives administrators the ability to push content to users’ quick access areas, enable and disable uploads and downloads, and more.
