John joined SAS as a Consultant in September 2009 having retired as a Detective Superintendent in Scotland’s largest force; Strathclyde Police.

In his police career spanning 30 years John developed a professional profile encompassing most aspects of policing with a particular emphasis on the specialist areas of investigation including national security matters. Furthermore, John has been immersed in a national programme of ICT enabled change and has accrued unparalleled experience in process improvement and the management of information assets within the criminal justice arena.  As a senior officer working in this environment he developed an exceptional understanding of the political and cultural challenges of introducing change in a complex criminal justice environment.

John enjoyed a rich and varied career holding many high profile positions most recently, Programme Manager of the Scottish Information Management Project, a central enabler for the national change programme of the Association of Chief Police Officers, Scotland (ACPOS). The principal tenet of the programme is to deliver common integrated information and communication systems.

John’s wider police service has incorporated many specialist roles in which he accrued extensive experience in the investigation of national security matters and serious crime. He is a trusted individual who has held senior positions in many sensitive areas of policing.

His breadth of experience has allowed him to develop substantial knowledge across many disciplines and he has a detailed understanding of the cultural, legislative and regulatory challenges facing a modern service.

Peter Snelling

Peter Snelling

Pete Snelling is a Principal Technical Consultant within the Global Public Security team based in the UK. In his role, Pete’s responsibilities include raising the awareness of SAS' software within the policing and intelligence community. He has also briefed Members of Parliament on the role of business analytics in policing and has given an interview to the BBC on threat identification in borders.

Peter has been part of the Public Security team at SAS since its inception and has worked closely with domain experts and clients around the globe to develop a clear understanding of the challenges faced by public security organisations.

He has previously focused on the more general UK public sector defining and communicating the value of business intelligence and analysis to these organisations.  Peter has also helped clients looking for solutions in data management, business intelligence, forecasting, predictive modelling and text analysis to understand the business value of these techniques in manufacturing, retail, finance and the public sector.

Pete has spent 17 years at SAS in a variety of roles across the organisation, including Heading up the Business Intelligence Practice for 4 years. Prior to SAS, Pete has worked in fund management, banking and telecoms producing and delivering management information solutions.
