These days, building your career is less like climbing a ladder, and more about embracing the jungle gym. And Allison Becker’s career journey at SAS is the perfect example!
“I started in our hosting group as an individual contributor doing consulting. As our group grew and I acquired more leadership skills, I was asked to move into a manager role. A few years later, I realized I wanted to pursue something that would allow me to apply my knowledge and experience internally at SAS. So, I moved to IT as an individual contributor. As my new group grew, I was asked to move back into management again!”
Following your passion
While she loved her team, she found herself missing being hands-on with the technology. After some soul searching, she decided to start looking for a new role in development. “When I decided to start looking, I knew that I was fortunate to already be at SAS. Because of the nature of our work, we have developers everywhere within the company. SAS is my long-term home, I just had to find the right place that fit my career path and development goals,” she explains. And find the right place she did! Allison’s currently rocking it as a Manager in Data and Analytics within our IT Enterprise Solutions division.
At the end of the day, Allison says her favorite part about working at SAS is the positive impact we make every day. “We focus on finding answers and solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems and create solutions for our customers to do the same. I want to help my customers take their data and turn it into much needed answers. I like knowing that I’m having a positive impact on the world through the work I do here at SAS and in a job that I love.”
Where you’ll find her when she’s off the clock
Outside of the office, you’ll often find Allison traveling to cool places like Scotland and singing with VocalMotion, our SAS show choir. We’re excited to have her join us at the Grace Hopper Celebration – the world’s largest gathering of women technologists – to help us grow and inspire the next generation of STEM talent!
