SAP Special Feature: SAP Business Intelligence
Read about how you can enhance SAP Business Intelligence (SAP BI) by using SAS business analytics through SAP-certified interfaces and technology.

SAS, a member of the SAP Software Partner Program, goes beyond the traditional definition of business intelligence. Not only does it offer business reporting, it also provides data management and predictive analytics that tell an organization where it should go next. By going "beyond BI," you achieve an integrated environment, with both the business and analytics required for fact-based decision making.

The SAS Intelligence Platform provides the components needed for managing business data, processes and technology across your operations, through SAP-certified integration of SAS 9.1 with SAP NetWeaver. Via open interfaces, SAS integrates with SAP Business Information Warehouse, the key component of SAP NetWeaver's Business Intelligence solution. SAS also integrates with SAP R/2, SAP R/3 and all your relational and non-relational databases, spreadsheets, data streams and other electronic data vital to your organization.

  • Enterprise ETL. Getting to all your data in a timely and cost-efficient manner is a business-critical challenge. To help you better use your time analyzing data rather than finding ways to access it, SAS offers a platform-independent extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) solution with a range of data access engines, a multithreaded transformation engine, integrated metadata management and a point-and-click interface.

  • Enterprise Data Quality. Providing easy and fast access to data is nice, but what if the data isn't accurate? SAS offers solutions to profile, cleanse and consolidate data, ensuring that your business and analytics meet high quality standards. SAS also makes sure that newly entered data is verified, augmented and standardized at the point of entry and that it integrates seamlessly in mySAP ERP transactions. For example, when typing in customer addresses, adding a new material via an SAP screen or importing other external data, these quality checks are performed in real time.

  • Enterprise Intelligence Storage. Business and analytics require appropriate storage to guarantee optimal flexibility for various analysis techniques and to provide acceptable response times - online and in batch. SAS offers relational, OLAP and parallel storage options to suit all types of application usage.

  • Business and analytics. SAS offers a wide range of tools for business intelligence, from simple reporting and OLAP analysis to advanced forecasting and data mining. There are user interfaces for information consumers, business analysts, power users, IT professionals and advanced statisticians. Each can discover the business rules applicable in their field and use this intelligence in the next component while IT retains control over the quality and consistency of data and the security and performance of BI applications. The goal of analytics is to anticipate unexpected events so you can use them to your advantage, providing a clear enough picture of the short-, mid- and long-term future so that you can make proactive decisions. Analytic models help, for example, predict customer behavior or estimate the propensity to buy. Such models can be based on hundreds or thousands of influencing variables, which are retrieved from throughout your organization to take into account all possible inter actions in increasingly complex business processes. SAS delivers a wide-ranging portfolio of analytics, algorithms, mathematical and statistical data manipulation, and modeling capabilities, enabling you to plan, simulate, optimize and forecast various business scenarios.

  • SAS solutions. The SAS Intelligence Platform provides the foundation for advanced analytic solutions. Horizontal solutions include customer intelligence, marketing automation, financial intelligence, IT value management, performance management, human capital management, supply chain intelligence and activity-based management. Industry-specific solutions for banking, insurance, telecommunications and retail contain best practices and best-in-class analysis to complement perfectly the business content offered by SAP Business Intelligence, as part of SAP NetWeaver. SAS Solution Adapters for SAP provide ETL capabilities to get to the proper SAP data, so there's no need to write any interface or code to connect to SAP. All preprocessing is performed to load the analytic models, so there is a seamless link between your operational SAP data and SAS solutions.

  • Enterprise Performance Management. No matter what the goal, everyone needs to understand where they are going and how they are performing. Managers need to understand the organization's health, enabling them to strategically steer the way forward. The SAS Intelligence Platform and SAS solutions extract required intelligence from all business departments and aggregate this collective intelligence in an all-embracing and easy-to-understand set of key performance indicators and executive monitoring tools. SAS can provide a link between strategic planning and day-to-day operations as recorded in mySAP ERP so you can base your decisions on real facts enhanced with predictive capabilities.

  • Closing the loop. Another equally important step is feeding information created in your business intelligence and analytics environment back into operational systems. With the SAS integration into key ERP and front-offices systems, including your SAP solutions, it is easy to bring operational systems up to date so you can benefit immediately from this acquired intelligence and apply it to your business processes.

Being able to react to business needs fast, leveraging all existing data and not creating a patchwork of various solutions is one of the key objectives that should drive IT decisions today. The SAS Intelligence Platform provides the basis for this efficiency. SAS and SAP software make a perfect combination, giving your enterprise all you need to go "beyond BI."

The SAS Intelligence Platform extracts intelligence from all your operational systems and leverages the ongoing investments you make in integrating your organization (its people, information and processes) via SAP NetWeaver. This enables you and your company to create a unique competitive advantage and stimulate continuous growth and innovation in the most "intelligent" way.
