Although retailers have had their sights set on controlling shrink for years, its industrywide priority continues to rise. Valuable gross margin dollars are lost to shrink, and missing merchandise contributes to the persistent problem of out-of-stocks. As retailers attempt to improve inventory turns, inaccuracies in perpetual inventory become more critical.
Now more than ever, retailers are reluctant to add staff to pore over detailed reports, and forensic reviews of losses do little to reduce customers’ frustration at not finding the right product in the right place, at the right time.
