Stage 3 - Project Planning
This stage finalises the plans for delivery, and documents the
resources required. It produces the baseline project plan that will be used in the Project
Execution phase. Associated with this are the final costs for the Project Execution
phase, which may differ from our preliminary estimates from the previous phase.
A full Project Definition Document (PDD) and Requirements Specification are the key outputs which
include project scope, project plan, milestones, costs, roles and responsibilities of individuals,
resource allocations, and an additional GO or NO-GO Decision Point. The high level Risk, Issue and
Change logs, which may have been generated in the Project Definition phase, are either updated or
created.
Before the next stage, formal kick-off meetings are held with the customer and internally at SAS,
involving representatives of all personnel and any specialist resources required.
