SAS #1 in data warehouse generation tools02 November 2005 - SAS, a leading business intelligence provider, today announced that it has been listed as the No. 1 provider of data warehouse generation (DWG) tools based on 2004 worldwide revenue. While this market had steady growth in 2004 - increasing 10.2 percent to $1 billion - this was the first time SAS "became the largest worldwide DWG vendor with close to $200 million in software revenue."* IDC defines data warehouse generation tools - which include both ETL (extraction, transformation and loading) and data quality products - as software that is used in the design, cleansing, transformation, loading and administration of the data warehouse. SAS was also a close second in the data warehouse information access tools category, which comprises tools used to enable end-users to access and analyse information stored in the data warehouse. IDC noted that in 2004, the overall data warehousing tools market "experienced its first double-digit growth year in some time" - which bodes well for the future of this market. "An organisation's data warehouse is a critical component to its future BI success, and many businesses are coming to the realisation that powerful, easy-to-use ETL tools are the stepping stone to the next level in an enterprise-wide intelligence strategy," said Joe Augustine, manager of data integration strategy at SAS. "This report from IDC validates the value of our ETL capabilities in the eyes of our customers. Not only has SAS always enabled companies to access data from any source at any time via a simple ETL process, but our customers recognise the breadth and depth of all of our data integration capabilities, which include data quality and the ability to integrate structured and unstructured text into data warehouses." SAS' data integration offerings make data a generalised and available resource - regardless of the source or platform on which that data resides. The SAS Enterprise ETL Server (http://www.sas.com/technologies/dw/entetlserver/index.html) is an essential part of the SAS®9 Enterprise Intelligence Platform, which is an integrated, open and extensible foundation for creating and delivering accurate, in-depth intelligence. From data integration and storage capabilities to business intelligence and analytic tools, the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform helps decrease existing intelligence gaps and provides a solid business analytics architecture that supports business processes at any level of an organisation.
