SAS Education launches Institute of Direct Marketing Certificate

New qualification supports marketing industry

12 January 2005 -  SAS Education, a division of SAS UK, a leader in business intelligence is addressing the increased challenges facing the marketing industry with the launch of the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) Certificate in Applied Marketing Analytics.

With European Union spam and outbound marketing legislation forcing organisations to better define and target their direct marketing campaigns, implementing and understanding marketing tools has never been more crucial. The new qualification, available from September 2004, has been designed for analysts who are primarily working with marketing data, and will empower them to be far more effective at driving their own business forward. By providing 'hands on' training to complement existing academic skills, the course confirms SAS' position as an innovator in the training market.

"SAS set a benchmark in the education sector in 2001 by allowing individuals to pursue an end-to-end training regime, providing customers with the skills to earn qualifications such as the SAS MSc Business Intelligence with SAS Certification, BSc in Mathematics and Applied Statistics," said Nick Houlton, Head of Education for SAS UK.

"With marketing legislation playing an increasing position in marketers' roles and campaigns, there is currently a perceived shortage of skilled statisticians and analysts in the marketplace. The IDM qualification should not only help alleviate the supply problem, but also allow employers to fill the gap by growing their existing staff skills."

Developed by the IDM in conjunction with SAS, the course provides both a detailed understanding of direct marketing and the statistical concepts required for sound marketing analysis. The course's style allows both first time users to SAS, as well as new entrants to the marketing environment to gain skills immediately applicable in the workplace.

"Businesses are increasingly realising the value of customer-driven, accountable marketing. IDM has built a training and education portfolio designed to meet the needs of organisations and individuals alike, and this new hands on qualification with SAS will add further value to our members," said Amanda Rogers, Qualifications Director, IDM.

The course will address:

  • The strategic application of direct marketing in both business and consumer markets
  • Forecasting, planning and measuring for direct marketing
  • The purpose of the marketing database and the role of data
  • How direct marketing is used for acquiring, developing and retaining customers
  • Direct marketing media and creativity
  • The use of SAS® Enterprise Guide software for marketing analytics
  • The real-world application of statistics using direct marketing data

"This new education initiative together with SAS UK's new customer intelligence practice is providing a complete solution. Organisations can now distil valuable insight on their customers to improve customer relationships, improve marketing operations and enhance sales effectiveness," said Houlton.
