SAS placed in Visionaries Quadrant for Data Integration Tools Magic Quadrant09 October 2007 - SAS, the leader in business intelligence, has been placed by Gartner, Inc. in the Visionaries Quadrant of the "Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools, 2007" report.1 "This placement speaks to SAS’ innovation, which is part of our DNA. Innovation drives SAS Data Integration," said Jim Davis, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "SAS Data Integration delivers a proven, integrated platform bolstered by critical data quality components provided by DataFlux, and we are forging ahead with new capabilities that will add analytical process optimisation, capacity planning and data visualisation to our leading lineup." SAS supplies a complete vision of data integration, helping customers through a full range of solutions that include connectivity and metadata; data cleansing and enrichment; extraction, transformation and loading (ETL); migration and synchronisation; data federation; and master data management. SAS® Data Integration runs on every major operating system and connects to virtually every data source from packaged applications and data warehouse appliances to data sources on the mainframe. SAS powers Shanghai Baosteel’s enterprisewide data warehouse, which supports the organisation in areas ranging from production planning and management to quality analysis for bar and rod products, production ability and resources, contract placing and delivery cycle analysis. Given its strategic nature, tracking the warehouse to deliver optimum performance, availability and accuracy is a critical activity. With an organisational intelligence solution developed using SAS Data Integration, Shanghai Baosteel has been able to improve both reliability and productivity. "Data warehouses like ours are highly sophisticated, and it involves various legacy systems including multiple data sources" said Haidong Tang, Technical Director in the Business Intelligence department at Shanghai Baosight, the IT company in Baosteel. "You need effective tracking to answer important questions. For example, did your ETL programs run properly? How is disk space expanding? Are the application servers running steadily? Have you picked up error messages in the Web server log? Or have you detected unauthorised intruders? Using ‘traditional’ methods, tracking all these items can be a very tough task, making it difficult for an administrator. SAS not only provided the ideal means to build our data warehouse, but it’s also been very useful in tracking. With SAS, administrators can organise all the information they need, making it far easier to manage the entire system. And the approaches we’ve used can be adopted for other similar solutions." SAS’ flagship solution in this space, SAS Enterprise Data Integration Server, enables organisations to manage data integration projects on an enterprise scale in a timely, cost-effective manner and meet the high data quality expectations of information consumers. SAS Enterprise Data Integration Server has proven to be a highly scalable engine, having set numerous world records for ETL. SAS is also the first data integration vendor to set forth new benchmarks for speed, scalability and performance that more accurately reflect real-world data integration tasks.
