SAS® Data Migration fosters successful short-term projectsNew project pricing provides full-function data integration capabilities for data migration projects08 June 2009 - Organisations faced with the complex task of moving information between systems have a new alternative to risky and hard-to-maintain manually coded programs. A new package from SAS, the leader in business analytics, now provides businesses with a powerful data integration solution for short-term projects. Many data migration projects exceed budget or key deadlines as a result of incorrectly assuming requirements are trivial and that simple, hand-coded routines will suffice. But data migration typically involves one or more strategic components, such as source system consolidation, preparation for a new business application, or aggregation and cleansing in preparation for business analytics. And when the data is critical production data, even small errors or delays can impede or shut down operations, leading to substantial customer dissatisfaction and lost revenue. SAS Data Migration addresses these issues with its full-featured data integration solution, including trusted components such as the SAS Enterprise Data Integration Server, a suite of advanced data quality tools leveraging technology from SAS subsidiary DataFlux and all SAS/ACCESS® technologies for popular enterprise database systems including Oracle, Teradata, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Netezza, HP Neoview and others. "Operational data integration projects – like database migrations, consolidations and upgrades – have increased from 20 percent of all data integration work in 2004 to 50 percent in 2008," said Philip Russom, industry analyst and author of Operational Data Integration: A New Frontier for Data Management from The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI). "These are very important projects because they support mission-critical applications and business processes, plus they reduce IT costs and help firms realign for the future. Yet, operational data integration is usually performed with a hodgepodge of tools. There's a real-world need for vendor products that directly address the data management requirements of data migrations and other operational data integration projects," said Russom. SAS Data Migration delivers comprehensive connectivity and data profiling, enabling organisations to:
“With large data volumes, often fragmented environments with nonstandard formats and data quality issues, some organisations underestimate the effort required to migrate data. SAS now offers a trusted data integration solution to help ensure timely and successful migrations, along with a shorter-term, project-oriented software license,” said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. SAS also offers professional services that include supplemental human resources, mentoring, migration planning or a full migration solution. With varied project length requirements, SAS Data Migration has a three-month license which can be renewed twice. For projects exceeding nine months, the migration license costs can be applied to the regular 12-month license of SAS Enterprise Data Integration Server.
