SAS UK Strengthens its Penetration of the Public Sector Market

New head of public sector is appointed to build upon SAS' recent success with government organisations.

05 February 2007 -  SAS, the leader in the new generation of business intelligence (BI) software and services, has announced the appointment of Richard Broad, as its new head of public sector sales, SAS UK.  Broad's appointment comes as part of SAS' continued push to develop its footprint in the public sector technology market, building upon its recent success with the NHS Counter Fraud Service (NHS CFS). The NHS CFS has signed an exclusive deal with SAS UK to use its enterprise intelligence platform in its continuing efforts to tackle fraud.

Broad's responsibilities are to set the vision, strategy and direction for SAS' public sector sales operation. He has been tasked to leverage the success of recent high profile wins and lead the team towards becoming the public sector business intelligence vendor of choice. In 2005, SAS experienced its highest ever revenue performance with total revenues reaching £71.1 million, up 10% from last year. This exceptional performance has lead to the expansion of the public sector team and the appointment of Broad for his leadership and guidance.

Broad joins SAS having spent 12 years at Oracle in sales management roles with responsibility for the criminal justice, local government and defence businesses. Prior to that, he worked at Ingres running its public sector alliances channel and later its local government sales business.

John Dalton, managing director of SAS UK said of Broad's appointment: "Richard is a great find for SAS. He has worked in some very high profile public sector positions and we want to use his experience to fulfil SAS' potential within this very important market. He joins at an exciting time for SAS and we hope that he can leverage the success that SAS has had with the NHS CFS and build upon that"

Commenting on his plans for the new role, Broad says "SAS has helped achieve great successes with its public sector customers and is assisting many of them with their transformational government initiatives. SAS has the best technology platform to enable them to manage the increasing deluge of data and I see it as my responsibility to promote this as widely as possible. My aim is for SAS to be synonymous with public sector success and be the technology partner of choice".

Broad enjoys sports including football, golf and sailing. He's also an avid music fan, regularly going to rock concerts and even plays the guitar.
