Welfare to Work and Universal Credit
Simply put, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) ensure that its 20 million customers receive the welfare and pensions they deserve.
The Welfare Reform Bill was introduced in 2011 to make the welfare system simpler and to make work pay. The new welfare payments will be called Universal Credit and the aim of universal credit is to make the system simpler and fairer which will include benefits and tax credits in one single payment.
An additional part of the Welfare Reform Bill, is to eliminate Fraud and Error. DWP have a joint comprehensive strategy with HMRC to tackle fraud and error.
Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith said: "Our reforms will end the absurdity of a system where people too often get rewarded for doing the wrong thing, and those who strive to do the best by their families get penalised.
