Business analytics leader is top-rated company headquartered in NC

CARY, NC  (22 gennaio 2009)  –  SAS, the leader in business analytics, again was named to FORTUNE magazine’s annual list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America. In addition to rising nine places to No. 20 on the list, SAS was listed as one of the best for healthcare, childcare and work-life balance. This is the 12th consecutive year that SAS has made the list.

“At SAS, we foster an environment that encourages creativity and innovation while allowing employees to balance work and life,” said SAS Vice President of Human Resources Jenn Mann. “Creating a good work environment is important because it drives employee satisfaction which in turn contributes to world-class products and close relationships with our customers.”

SAS has long been recognized as an innovator in encouraging employee work-life balance. Employees at SAS headquarters in Cary, NC, enjoy onsite amenities including healthcare and daycare, a 66,000-square-foot recreation and fitness center, and incentive programs to reward employee wellness. As a result, SAS employees are unusually loyal. Annual turnover is about 4 percent in an industry in which 22 percent is the norm. SAS benefits from this low turnover in many ways including long-term relationships with customers, knowledge retention and low recruitment and training costs.

In 2004, SAS’ consistent appearance on the list earned the company a membership in the magazine’s Hall of Fame, whose 22 inductees have appeared on every list since its inception in 1998.

The full list and related stories appear in the Feb. 2 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands Monday, Jan. 26, and now at FORTUNE.com/bestcompanies

More than 81,000 employees from 353 companies responded to the 57-question survey created by the Great Place to Work ® Institute. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees. The remaining third is based on a company’s responses to the Culture Audit questionnaire, which asks detailed questions about demographics, pay and benefits, and open-ended questions on philosophy, communication and more.
