SAS hits 7.6% workforce growth worldwide in 2011
'Big data' and ongoing global challenges spur hiring to meet customer needs
Tervuren, 3 November 2011
SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, continues to grow its workforce despite the ongoing economic situation. The company has 12,370 employees worldwide – and exceeded the 6 percent growth in hiring projected at the beginning of the year. The new hires focus on meeting new and evolving customer needs, largely driven by the exponentially growing volume of data and critical global issues. SAS is increasing staff to support its hosted SAS® Solutions OnDemand offerings, as well as sales, research and development, and key industry experts within customer intelligence and the SAS Center for Health Analytics and Insights.
"As computers process more information at greater speeds, people are realizing the potential hidden in their data. SAS is being asked to answer questions and solve problems that couldn't be answered or solved before," said SAS CEO Jim Goodnight. "As demand for analytics rises, SAS continues to hire technology, analytics and industry experts to continue innovation and maintain close relationships with our customers. With 35 years of hiring and retaining top talent, no other company has deeper experience in applying 'big analytics' to solve 'big data' problems."
Big data describes the vast and growing amounts of information that organizations collect – both structured and unstructured data on operations, customers, finances, risk and more. By applying powerful data analytics – sometimes referred to as big analytics – to this big data, organizations can make sense of all this data and use it to compete and succeed.
SAS' hiring reflects the value of analytics to state and local government. In December, SAS announced the SAS Analytics Lab for State and Local Government and the intention to add 100 new technology and government experts over the next two years. Since then, the need for analytics to tackle critical government challenges such as fraud, tax collection, public safety and education reform has only increased.
The lab has added more than 50 new employees in eight months, putting it well ahead of the intended hiring rate. In addition to North Carolina, SAS continues to place technology and subject-matter experts throughout the country, where new projects are announced.
In 2011, SAS has grown by 447 employees in the US, with 401 based at its Cary, NC, world headquarters.
This year SAS Belgium & Luxembourg has already grown by 27 new employees, mainly pre-sales, business consultants and consultants.
“Our target to grow 25% will be reached by the end of this year and was set to increase our local industry and domain expertise and our ability to thoroughly understand our customers’ challenges and business needs. Only this way we continue to bring even more value to our customers and deliver high quality solutions and services in a short timeframe”, says Patrick Van Deven, Country Manager SAS Belgium & Luxembourg.
Els Brusselmans, HR Manager SAS Belgium & Luxembourg adds: “We also helped some of our customers and alliance members to find well trained employees in the market. With our Summer-of-SAS training program this year we managed to deliver fifteen young graduates that successfully completed SAS trainings during the summer. Eleven of them have already signed a contract! We certainly intend to continue this program in 2012!”
