SAS: Number 1 in Business Intelligence in Belgium and Luxembourg
Faster growth than the software market in 2009

Software provider SAS holds 24.4% of the Business Intelligence market in Belgium and Luxembourg — the leading position in this segment. That is what extensive independent market research carried out by Pierre Audouin Consultants (PAC) confirmed at the end of 2009. SAS Belgium & Luxembourg ended 2009 with a 7% growth rate. This figure far outstrips the average growth of the overall software market (-2%) for the same period.
Leader in three sub-segments out of four
The study carried out by PAC indicates that SAS is the Business Intelligence market leader in Belgium and Luxembourg, with a 24.4% market share. This study is the first of its kind to focus on four well defined sub-segments in the BeLux region: data integration, analytics, reporting, and business solutions. The market share that SAS holds in each of these sub-segments amounts to 25.8%, 27.0%, 22.1%, and 22.3% respectively. SAS occupies the leading position in the first three sub-segments, and is one of the Top Three suppliers of business solutions.
Precise data for the BeLux region
‘These past few years, the Business Intelligence segment has seen numerous acquisitions and consolidations. During this same period, the software sector in Belgium and Luxembourg declined. In 2009, the sector average dropped to -2% whereas SAS experienced a growth of 7%,’ explains Patrick Van Deven, Country Manager SAS Belgium & Luxembourg. ‘We wanted to know our exact position within the market, but we did not have sufficiently precise data regarding our sector and region. That is why we requested this study. The results indicate that our position has actually become stronger.’
An unbiased and detailed study
To carry out this study, Pierre Audouin Consultants (PAC) interviewed the main players in the Belgium and Luxembourg markets.
