Major Australian Health Research Platform deploys SAS SolutionsBioGrid Australia adopts advanced SAS forecasting tools.SYDNEY, Australia (25 Mar 2009) – The Australian arm of SAS reports that BioGrid Australia, which is based at Melbourne Health, has installed SAS’ analytical, forecasting and data mining software tools. The value of the sale is not disclosed. BioGrid Australia provides a research platform with linkage across more than 20 major hospitals and research institutes throughout Australia. SAS is the leader in business analytics software and services, and the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence market. After a successful trial, BioGrid decided to leverage SAS’ user-friendly data mining capabilities to help better identify biomarkers which could beneficially contribute to various patient and disease outcomes. Speaking of the decision, Marienne Hibbert, Melbourne Health’s BioGrid project director, said, “We found the SAS Enterprise Miner suite ideal for our needs. It offers a comprehensive range of data mining techniques in a drag-and-drop framework that is compatible with SAS’s Enterprise Guide. Moreover, the easy-to-use GUI interface makes data mining much more accessible for researchers unfamiliar with these techniques.” She added, “Another welcomed advantage of SAS’ data mining tool was the compare feature which allows researchers to compare different predictive models and provides the ability to create ensemble models with ease.” SAS Australia public sector manager in Melbourne, Sonya Stephens, said the contract was negotiated following BioGrid’s attendance at a public forecasting workshop conducted late last year. She added, “The workshop helped reaffirm our clear credibility in the analytics space and led to BioGrid investing further in our solutions, and upgrading to the very latest software for modelling, forecasting and simulation needs”.
