SAS Australia records solid 2009 results

SYDNEY, Australia  (12 Feb 2009)  –  Following SAS’ release of its global 2008 results last week (see highlights below and the full media release at http://www.sas.com/news/preleases/2008Financials.html ) Gordon Clubb, managing director of SAS Australia and New Zealand, discussed the company’s 2008 performance in this market.

His comments included, "We in Australia had a solid year overall despite the tightening economic conditions in the fourth quarter. Our 2008 growth in new software licence revenue was particularly gratifying, coming in at eight per cent over the number for 2007”. He added that employee headcount also grew in 2008, up nearly 10 per cent to 210.

New customers for SAS Australia last year included Elders, Data Action and Australian Central Credit Union, while National Australia Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Bankwest/HBOS were among the many existing customers who expanded their use of SAS’ market leading analytics and business intelligence solutions.

SAS Australia also achieved strong growth in its customer education business, reflecting the desire of organisations to continue to drive an increasing return on their SAS investment.

Reflecting on the opportunities of the new year now well under way, Gordon Clubb said the focus would be on business analytics, adding, “In today’s testing business climate, organisations must switch the operational emphasis from automation to innovation”.

Mr Clubb noted that leading international analyst firm, IDC, recognised SAS’ commitment to this trend and that – worldwide last year – SAS’ strongest growth was in analytics, amongst other solutions.

He added, “Businesses of all types and sizes increasingly recognise that SAS offers a true framework for Business Analytics with all of the required solutions and applications to make a positive impact on bottom line results”.

2008 global highlights:

  • Revenue up 5.1 per cent to US$2.26 billion
  • 33rd year of revenue growth
  • Analytics revenue up 21 per cent
  • 22 per cent of revenues for R&D
